I got this one a couple of weeks ago, and I'm really liking it.

Barbisio Classic in what appears to be Natural, un-dyed felt. It is one of the stiffest hats that I have, but still surprisingly mallable (that's a dry bash you're looking at). The color of the natural felt shifts according to the surroundings and lightning, going from a lightish egg-carton dull-gray to almost natural white in sunlight.

The finish is slightly fuzzy and rather coarse - almost as if it hadn't been pounced at all, which I guess would fit with the "semiruvido" on the label behind the sweatband, which google kindly translated as "semi rough".

Protective plastic liner behind the sweatband.

2" brim with overwelt and triple decroative stitching. Note the coarse finish.

Cervo Questions

Hey Brothers,
Newer member here and I just won a Cervo hat on Ebay. I have discovered that these are not too common in the USA...but it seems like there is a link with the Barbisio brand. The hat liner says "S.A.Capellificio Cervo-Sagliano Micca Italia" and the sweat band imprint says "Cervo Sagliano Micca Gran Marca Casa Fondata Nel 188?" So are these two brands linked only in the present day or is there a long standing relationship? Is Cervo considerd a quality manufacturer on par with Barbisio? The hat seems to be very well made and the felt is superb! Here is a link to the item, http://http://cgi.ebay.com/Cervo-Gran-Marca-Hat_W0QQitemZ250581726227QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Men_s_Women_s_Accessories?hash=item3a57d5b413#ht_500wt_1182. Thanks in advance for any info you might care to share!!:)

I own a Cervo. It has the exact same liner as yours. I bought mine old new stock from Worth & Worth in New York. They don't sell then anymore. All I have to say is that my Cervo is one, if not the nicest, highest quality hat that I own. You can probably email W&W for more details about the brand.

Thanks for the info Aureliano...it looks like Mrs. Dewson's in SF is still in business and selling Cervo hats as well! I thought there was a Barbisio/Cervo link because it looks like the modern Barbisio hats are made at the Cervo factory http://www.barbisio.it/ita/hat_collection.html but maybe other members know more about the history of hat makers in this region of Italy? :eusa_clap

Barbisio "Lugano"

Thanks to a kind tip from a fellow lounger and friend, I was able to acquire this hat, which I picked up from the seller this past Saturday. The seller had "picked" the hat from a local thrift store, one of several he religiously visits on a daily basis, and it came in a beautiful Lee Hats box.

This Italian made Barbisio has felt that is incredibly soft, light, and finely pounced, and yet somehow feels more substantial than my Borsalino Alessandria. Though tagged as 7-3/8 it actually fits perfectly on my 7-1/2 noggin as if custom made!

Originally sold through the Eklund Clothing Co. of Minneapolis, this hat will be staying in Minnesota a while longer...

Crown: 5" at the peak.
Ribbon: 1/2"
Brim: 2-5/8", with 1/8" edge binding.
Sweatband: 2".
