Baseball Caps (in moderation)?

I used to wear a Dallas Stars bb cap but it got all dirty and grungy so I don't own any bb caps anymore. If I ever get paid to advertise for a company, I'll gladly wear their baseball cap.

Being follicley challenged and of Celtic descent a hat of some description is a necessity for any time spent in the sun. A BB cap is the most practical lid for lots of outdoor chores, although I do use an el-cheapo brimmed straw hat when on the riding mower.

I don't think there's anything actually wrong with baseball caps, apart from insufficient sun protection. I guess you could say the same about trilbies and different cap styles, too. My issue with ballcaps, is that I would rather not wear them. Just about everyone else in my family wears them sometimes, some a lot more often than others. I've worn baseball caps before over the years, but that was not often, and I went without one 99% of the time until I discovered a more stylish alternative a couple years ago; the fedora. I used to wear a cowboy hat (an actual felt of some kind) every day when I was a lot younger, though. Maybe my early exposure to felt hat wearing has something to do with it. I would probably wear a baseball cap, sometimes, if I found the right one, that being one associated with my favored baseball team, or just a plain off-white or khaki cap to wear when a felt hat wouldn't be entirely practical. I don't like logos, on hats or clothing, and this is also a reason why I don't wear baseball caps, as so many of them do have them.

Unfortuntely, the common man's head gear, if he wears any, most of the time around here, it's a ball cap, usually with a local feed store, or place of employment insigna on it. It's the same for me, 5 days a week at work, it's always a ball cap, and used to be a welding cap, which is a cotton denim cap that could be turned around backwards when wearing a welding hood or cutting shield, etc. Many welders still use these, the rest of them will often wear a hard hat or common adjustable ball cap and remove it, when putting on the welding hood.

I have just lately gotten into Fedoras, but mostly it has been cowboy hats, or baseball caps, and I practically never go bareheaded, unless it church, and even then I will often wear a cowboy hat, but of course remove it, the second I walk in the door.

We don't often purchase baseball caps, unless it's a Harley Davidson cap, because we get so many given to us, like I said, either the local feed store, ***shop, NRA, or place of employment, hands them out. Once in awhile, I will wash a favorite Harley Davidson cap, but generally, we just wear one until it's too dirty to be seen in it, then throw it away and grap another.

Now, if I did something else for a living, I would wear nothing but Fedoras and Cowboy hats, but they just don't work as well as the ball cap for welding, mechanic work, service people, etc. Even the farmers often wear ball caps, these days, but for me the Cowboy hat is still king, with the Fedora being a nice alternative, when I don't want quite as big a brim, but then I live in rural America not the city, thankgoodness.

Don't actually see many folks wear any sort of hat where I live, even baseball caps. I grew up a farm boy in South Dakota in the late 50's-early 60's and what you primarily saw were farmers wearing John Deere caps. I only own 4 hats-1 felt fedora, an outback, and 2 ball caps. Only wear the fedora to work in cooler weather, the outback when out tromping about in the "wild," and the 2 caps during spring and fall when the mood hits me for casual stuff. But, during hot months don't want anything covering my noggin'. Liked the 2 caps just because the graphics on 1 featured references to New Mexico-my favorite spot-and an image of Kokopelli, a favorite and the other had interesting graphics and a very low crown which 1 doesn't usually see. Do agree with 1 of the posters who spoke of, as a lad, he'd get ribbed if the brim hadn't been curled properly. Quite right-what's with the flat brims? The curl must be fairly acute, afterall. I have a couple. One is a replica SF Seals BB cap from the Dimaggio Bros era.

Some of the "Vintage" replica BB caps are kinda cool (IMHO) I like the ***** League caps.

I wear it in the house or doing yard work. The other is a long billed Fisherman's Baseball cap I used to use for the beach. I do like the "Hemmingway" Peterman Cap but I wouldn't shell out $60 for it.

So did my grandad except his had a green translucent visor. I've searched for them in the past but no luck.

I wear an OSU cap, and one with Fire Department NY on it, for working.

I actually have a woolie fedora that is for just such jobs. Dont care about grease, sawdust, gardening schmuutz, etc.

I think the reasons for this hat's place in the world are because Ive had it for such a long time, it's black, and it's wool. The combination of the three makes it 'okay.'

Personally I haven't worn a BB cap since I played baseball as a kid. I have a few family members who's biggest achievement is their "redneck lifestyle" (In the I listen to country music and act like their songs say I should sense.), who wear them all the time. They don't interest me though. The straight brim hat worn with the brim pointing towards two o'clock is about the stupidest look I have ever seen though.
