Stumbled upon this and not sure if this is super rare or super phony. . Trojan D-pocket made of....front quarter cowhide? Thoughts anyone? Even if it's a non-original/non-LW knockoff, I'm still intrigued as to its history.... It is not one of the readily recognizable Trojan models or styles. I would not think scammers first choose to copy. I have not seen this style of Trojan reproduced by any the jacket makers discussed on the FL. I lean towards an original. I am not familiar with original Trojan labels a good place to start for comparison
I agree with jonbuilder that it would be odd to see someone go to the trouble to fake a relatively unknown jacket and yet something about that one feels off to me. In particular the side buckles combined with the belt loops jumps out to me as features you would see on two different jackets but not combined on the same jacket. Also the color and tone of the leather look to me like some thing that was made to look old, rather than really being old.
Exactly - and front quarter cowhide - is that even a term the industry uses ?? I’m going to pitch this to Unsolved Mysteries.
The label looks off too. In addition to FQCH, too funny, the spacing of the name and the little dude look off. And I don’t recall seeing this label in yellow.
I’m tempted to buy it just to get a close look at it in person ... it’s only $80 bucks on yahoo auctions. Maybe I’ll have to only surviving front quarter cowhide jacket in existence Boom or bust!
The zig zag edges on the leather patch that the label is stitched on screams "modern" to me, I have never seen that done on a vintage jacket. Secondly, as @JMax said the tag looks off, my LW trojan has a . (full stop) behind the word "calif", this one doesn't have it. Can someone with the Rin Tanaka book check to see if originals have a . after calif? To me this is a modern/new jacket with a tribute tag.
Wasn't Trojan Sportswear a short-lived company IIRC? If not, looks like something they'd perhaps do more modern day? I don't see a lot/anything that would indicate they existed beyond the 1950s. image from an ebay listing; this has the dot.
It does, basically a handwarmer D pocket, i have seen it done on a few modern japanese jackets, pretty sure i saw modern Harley Davidson jackets with that setup too...
I vote FAKE. It says TRO JAN on the label, and the head looks different. Distressing looks artificial.
This is not an original Trojan jacket. Here is a label from a Trojan ladies jacket. 60s? 50s? I have seen very few Trojan products, don't know much about them.
There is very little information about Trojan. As stated above, they were short lived operation. You just don't see their products on the resell market. The ladies goatkin jacket tells me they had a fuller range of products than MC jackets. I have seen maybe two authentic Trojan MC jackets for sale. They probably didn't make many.
Mystery solved - checked in with Stu - says it's a fake REPRO and a "Mickey Mouse" piece. I can't argue with that...
