19th century Chicago gallows sold to Ripleys.

Had been kept in storage for 50 years awaiting recapture of 1921 cop killer.
Then sold to theme park who finally deemed it too macabre for display.

Out behind the Sierra County Courthouse in Downieville, California stands the original wooden gallows from the 19th Century. Over the years, it has been in and out of storage, and has been repaired as necessary. At one point it was the view from the county's jail cells until the sheriff had it moved. It is now a California Registered Historical Landmark.
