When i get older i become to favor more deerskin than horsehide
No need to age, ready to wear, especially mobility of the arm, stunningly soft like ****s, and the sleeve wont be too long as horsehide did

Here to share my freewheelers centinela deerskin, i always love this leather jacket

I am not sure if the lining is 100% wool or may be flannel, as its finer and softer than that lining of Mulholland, J-31 and aklak grizzly

And this one is deerskin leather jacket from Akan leather, i visit akan lake hokkaido early 2025 and found this store, they could make the jacket tailor to the measurements you want, it cost like 350,000 yen, its a bit expensive but i like it anyway

Different from normal 1.8-2mm thick deerskin, they are using 1mm thick, deerskin of ezo deer from their local environment so its more thin for urban wearing.

They produce it take like 3 months
Hokkaido great place to visit during vacation, alsays can find some novel interesting things

I also like my Trickers boots in Deerskin - really comfortable and no break in needed. However I'm always afraid of abrasion damage. It's definitely not as tough as horse, steer or cow.

yeah, it does, but optimistic side is it would never be sold out, just wear it then. If Its damaged, repair or replace with another one. One's personal comfort should be top priority than the accessories.
I have tried trickers deerskin before, but its a little bit narrow for me

Horsehide was not for comfort this is a for heavy duty. USN for example take goatskin for more comfortable jacket and most M422 after same time more wearable then horsehide A-2.

Goatskin deerskin or even suede could skip the aging process and ready to wear

Deer is sublime. I’ve moved away from heavy leathers almost entirely. I don’t need the protective qualities they afford, other than from wind, which is about all deer can handle. I see it as luxurious, delicate but quite beautiful and so easy to wear. I’ve had these deers.

Below is my current favorite. Jerry’s. Light as a feather. Beautifully tailored. Can’t wait for some dry, milder but cool temps to wear it. Gonna be awhile.

Anyone have long term aging experience with deerskin boots?

Unsung posted some really beautiful deerskin engineers and it got me thinking about this combo. I would imagine the shaft would turn into a very soft accordion very quickly, but I'm curious if the main crease point on the vamp stretching out too much, or the toe collapsing and becoming glove like.

Imo deerskin is not that durable to be used for the boots. Even my deerskin gloves i would always worry about scratches on it than my own hands. The steel toe added in the engineer may even bring internal damage to the deerskin.

Years ago we used to get given those yellow deerskin gloves for work, I liked them as they were also soft and supple, but they did get scratched up some

I have had John Lofgren Ezo Shika deer engineers for over 4 years now. The shafts are two layers due to the extra soft and thin nature of the deerskin which allows the shafts to hold their shape.
Here they are today as I was just doing some maintenance on my boots this week.

Here next to a horsehide pair that are a year newer.

Deerskin has a wonderful grain, as seen in so many examples above. I've only owned one deerskin jacket, which nhad a wonderful softness and drape, but do currently have a 60's era deerskin shirt that gets a lot of wear around the yard, campfire, etc. Rugged but lightweight.
