Derby, Western, Fedora...a Venerable Legend, THE Stetson 3X...BEFORE 1970!!!!

Ok, here is another of mine. This came with the box shown......3 inch brim, 6+ inch crown thin ribbon......very thin.......not sure of the model name. I am guessing right about 1959-1960. Still has that beautiful embroidered "Last Drop" liner, a 2 inch sweat....but re-introduces the standing beaver rectangle logo from the 30's. The debossing is deep and sharp.....very well done, as is the gold. Much cleaner with more detail than my mid-60's 3X with the same logo. Sweat is backed by the onion-skin protector. Felt is real nice in the common silver-belly color, but none of the super fine feel or look of my Longhorn made almost 10 years earlier.
Still a nice hat, with that tall crown I was inspired by bamaboots and went for a deep center dent with fore and aft pinches rather than the common "cattleman" crease it came with. This is actually a crease I have on two other hats, one a new production premier Stratoliner. I also dropped the brim sides down, slightly up in back, down in front....I think it now sort of resembles a late 19th century campaign hat.......I am pleased with the results and It will get some good head time now. The first two pictures are the hat as it came to me......the rest are now.

Good looking, the new crease is unique.

Here is a 60's Stetson "Derringer" commissioned and sold by Eddie Bauer. Came with the cool flintlock derringer pin that I promptly removed. Came to me unworn but ill stored as it was/is pretty mothie! Felt is ok, but really hard to tell as it is very western stiff. But makes a good work hat.......which I have been wearing a while.

I like the flange to the brim a lot! Pleased to find this in my size!!:eek::D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Onionskin behind the generous 2" sweat.....
I left the front ribbon end tucked as found......

I don't have photos of me with the hat (I keep forgetting when I have it on) but I got a beautiful mid grey OR Stetson 3X from the 50s from Bowen and it's so so soft and beautiful I love it!! I was surprised because my first hat here was the Stetson 7x OR silverbelly (I started my hat collecting quite strong lol) and then I got the 3x and thought well 7 is better than 3, so they are definitely different, one feels to be of western weight the other more a dress weight but I love them both in different ways, both for softness, color, and the brim length is slightly different.

Some great hats, Mark. That Silver Spur checks all the boxes; something special there. Thanks for sharing.

Nice additions Mark (@M Hatman )! I've found advertisements for the Derringer from 1968 - 1974 (I have the straw version). Let me know if you would like to part with that pin. :D

This is a 3X I picked up last year. A lucky find for $13.

That’s some luck! Did you stop on your way home and buy a lottery ticket?

Being used to dress weight hats, I was a bit disappointed when I bought a 7XCB. I just didn’t immediately warm to it. The longer I’ve had it the more I’ve come to love it. It’s now one of my very favorites.

Safe to say that anything that comes from Alan or Bowen is going to be something special.
