Hi my hubby is going to stationed in the Detroit area for a week or so. He is near the Melvindale or Lincoln Park area. Are there any cool places of any sorts around there? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes - there's a lot to be had in and around Detroit. Downtown I would recommend the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Public Library, the Opera house... and that's just a few of the attractions. If you're as interested in cars as your avatar might suggest there are of course automotive related sights to be seen - the Henry Ford Estate, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour, Automotive Hall of Fame, etc. You could also catch a Tigers game in their (relatively) new stadium if you're a sports fan.

I live in Dearborn and work in downtown Detroit, but I haven't been here for long and don't really know my way around too well. Still, I do know a little about the area.

There's a vintage shop in Royal Oak: http://www.lostandfoundvintage.com/lfv/

Also, a HUGE used book shop in downtown Detroit: http://www.rarebooklink.com/cgi-bin/kingbooks/index.html

There's also a place in Royal Oak called "Deco Doug", it's near Lost and Found Vintage, but I haven't been inside, just drove past. It could be interesting.

Also check out the Fisher Building: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisher_Building

And if you have time, visit Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum, both in Dearborn (but both are a day-long trip, so if you're only here for a week, you'll probably need to pick one or the other).

adamjaskie is right; don't know how I forgot to mention John King. I highly recommend it as well, especially if you're a book lover. If you're a book lover with empty pockets, however, I would not recommend it...
