Playing at the drive-in tonight is a Dunlap Superior in grey and black. The seller was optimistic with the 23" size listing. Its actually just shy of 22 1/4".

The crown is 5 1/2", brim 2 1/2", ribbon 1 11/16", sweat is 1 13/16". The sweatband is also some of the most supple leather I've come across yet. Very deep embossed Dunlap logo. No sign of a union sticker inside. Remnants of a size and price tag on back of sweat.

The felt is light and kind of floppy. The crown has very pronounced lines from the bash.

The brim has a stitched overwelt with another row of stitching just beyond the brim fold. Liner is a very nice cotton-like fabric. Not silky.

Here are the pics.

Older Dunlap fedoras are so rare, you might end up being alone in your Drive-In. I hope I'm proved wrong! :)

However, plenty of very old Dunlap top hats show up on eBay. Can they pull in here for a burger and shake?

.

You could always sneak them thru in the trunk....

Great, thanks Lefty. Your ad collection is wonderful. I'll add my straw tomorrow. Also found a Dunlap fedora box yesterday that I'll post.

Very nice, buler. I love the embossing on the sweat.

Cheers,

Likewise, especially the retailer's logo. Real cool font.

I think I have some recollection of Prager's in Seattle, but then again, I couldn't tell you just where they were or how long it's been since they were there.

Hey Bolt, nice straw. I really like the ribbon. Does it say "Supreme" in the scroll at the bottom of the liner tip?

Thanks man, yes it does say Supreme, does that matter? [huh]

Just couldn't quite read it. Could be a clue down the road to date something. Still a lot to learn.....

Dunlap Backbow

This is a nice mint (except for some slight stains to the liner) black backbow Dunlap. It appears that its only ever had a center crease. The liner is satin with a plastic tip cover. The liner tip is a blue "Dunlap New York Superior". Sweatband gold stamped with "Dunlap New York" and the retailer stamp of "A. Shifman Bros. Hamtramck, Mich.". Brown paper size tag and brown tied bowtie. Brim size is 2 3\8" and the ribbon is 2 3\16" with a typical backbow. Thick reeded brown sweatband with size ink stamped on back. Manufacturers reorder tag reads, "Oval: Reg, To Duplicate: H 40715, Block: 6165 4178, Size 7 1/8". Single row stitched overwelt. The felt is thick with a nice feel.
