Best trip momento EVER! To me, it is comparable to going to the Harley-Davidson factory & getting a piece of the machines that used to make Pan Heads or Shovel Heads!!!!

A note about the Stock Yards visit...

I went into 3 shops that had hats, 2 had hat departments, both on the main window on main street & Best Hats up the road.
Not 1 fedora styled hat in any of them but besides Major Moore & the living history guys, there weren't a lot of western hats being worn.
Our fedoras were the predominant lids on the street besides the baseball caps of course...

I actually saw quite a few felt and straw westerns myself. They were mostly of the cattleman/rodeo variety. I got the impression that many people considered our hats westerns, because I was asked several times if I was part of the group. Apparently my Moorelite "wasn't a cowboy hat like those other ones", as one person put it.

I may be blind to them after being in Texas & Oklahoma all week up in Quarter Horse country...especially the straw ones since the weather was so nice....That group playing "bar golf" was interesting too....

The only detriment I can think of was the difficulty (impossibility?) of finding a timely meal @ the stockyard. There were a TON of people there!

Alan, those were all part of the permanent collection in the front cases. It was so nice of Joe to allow us to handle them.

It was really cool of Joe. He only let the the Loungers handle them because he told us that, "we know what we are doing." It really was a big honor.
