Flannels outside the US

Im in the search of some nice high quality flannels. I have bought myself a UES one which I like a lot, but it barely just fits me while being the largest size, but thats how it goes with japenese sizing. When I look online to try to find good ones its mostly from a US perspective, so what is a good bargain there isnt the same deal for me in europe with cross atlantic shipping and import duties.

Do any of you have any good recommendations for good brands with nice quality, yarn dyed, 275gsm/ 8oz/yd² or more fabric flannels? Preferably cheaper than iron heart which Im already eyeing.

new to the site, so excuse me if this is the wrong place to post

Best Regards

If you want cheap, buy used. Check out Marrkt for used flannels, which ships from the EU. Any JP-made brands and RRL are good.

So I am taking it you are in Europe?

Flannel shirts I generally purchase at a local farm supply store. I have yet to ever discover the "point" of a $150 flannel shirt from a fancy-name company. Generally at a (US-based) Tractor Supply, Farm & Fleet, or Fleet Farm, I have paid as much as $40 but much more typically closer to $25 for each flannel. And I have yet to ever wear one out, including doing actual farm work and washing it twice a week.

I would think there are plenty of locally sourced options for these near you?

I'll add an update in here, as I realize in Europe these may be a little harder to come by. First a question, do you want light, middle or heavy-weight flannel shirts? I ask as there's a lot of difference in the use-case for each one. Most of mine are middle weight, anything more and I get too hot.

If you search ebay, I suspect you could find some of these to have sent over, I have the following brand-names in my collection:
- Five Brother
- Carhartt
- Wrangler
- Work & Sport
- Ridgecut
- Alpine Design
- LL Bean

These are not made in USA shirts, but they work and the Carhart is over 14 years old.

IF you need a Made-in USA flannel, try Freenote Cloth, Flison (many of these made elsewhere now), Pendleton (older ones made in USA) and some of the vintage LL Bean and Eddie Bauer shirts where as well.

If he’s looking at UES / IH flannels, he’s not going to be pleased with any of the brands you recommended. He’d be ok with Samurai, Flat Head, Warehouse, SDA, RMC, or other heavyweight JP brands. He just wants to get high quality flannels for cheap, which necessitates buying used. eBay UK and Vinted are also platforms worth browsing.

Tyvm for the brands. Checked Five Brother out and they seem nice. Nice prices, with 100% cotton and medium to heavy fabrics

I know you said cheaper than IH, but IMHO, there’s no substitute. You can often find good deals on their forum sale pages or even buyee and eBay.

As for sizing, their size charts are very accurate. I take **L their western cut UHF’s. I’m 6’2” 175lbs. 42” chest.

Id really love one, and it looks great on you. The problem is the sizing second hand. Im around 240 lbs with a 48 inch chest and broad shoulders so probably need a 3 or 4x

You’re right, you’d need to go quite large on the sizing.

Freenote Cloth also has some excellent flannels and they’re sizing is larger, but I don’t see as many used pieces available.

I have bought most brands of flannels and I always come back to Iron Heart westerns. They really are the best and, since they hold their value, you can swap them out on the used market if you get tired or one of the colorways.
