Thanks for the reply. So it's availability then that demands the price, bit like fillet steak, rather than it actually being better. That's fair enough I get that, suppose I should invest really, could see for myself then.

Shell is also arguably not leather. It's technically the shell membrane on the horse rump so it's not normal leather from what I understand. That's what gives it such unique characteristics.

Shell cordovan (or cordovan) is a type of leather commonly used in high-end shoemaking. Cordovan is an equine leather made from the fibrous flat connective tissue (or shell) beneath the hide on the rump of the horse. ... Shell cordovan has a unique non-creasing characteristic.

In the day a common accessory for shell cordovan shoes was a smooth roasted venison bone which was used to help smooth any creases on the vamp of the shoe.

It’s not that it doesn’t crease at all. It’s more like waves or rolls. It takes time because of how stiff they are. But when they do wave/roll they take a very unique look. Still might not be for you but I thought it valuable to distinguish that it does eventually take shapes. Just not the typical boot/shoe look. 11229578-25EC-474F-8754-641475ADB424.jpeg

"triply leather the center is thin horn like shell...", what does that mean? sounds a lot like marketing ploy there rather than real shell...

Wolverine does their 1000mi boots in shell every once in awhile @ $895.00. I'm still on the hunt for the 721LTD.

Those are some beautiful boots. I just watched a video on the making of the 721 LTD. Good luck in your quest.

Some time ago I was looking for a nice brown boot. Then I saw this post from @dudewuttheheck about a nice brown boot…
I asked Jake to give me some advice and he shared generously his opinion and knowledge. So I decided to pull the trigger and ordered the boot from Motor.

It's by far my best made boots at the moment.

Mine look like that (I am not a skilled photographer…)

Vibergs after approx. two months of wear. Yeah, they still look freaking new. Then again, with each boot being near 3 lbs, that's not really surprising at all.
