Dear friends, I received messages for a Real mccoys A1 jkt size 42 I was looking for and asked with "WTB" post. I sent 900$ for one and when he received them the guy started to ask me more. I soon understand that was a fraudulous seller . Jackets pics probably come from Internet but the guys seems to know what it means. So don't believe if you receive messages " a friend of mine have this jacket, you can contact him......" name of the guys are "John Miles" (aka/ stone mace ) and other "Wayne Tony (aka /sammatthy) if you have more infos about them let me know. That will help police process . Best .

Wow that is a big hit. Sorry to hear. I assume this is in the US? Personally I would insist paying PP merchant and add the extra fee. If the seller doesn't want this option I would walk away.
Had something similar happen to me but on eBay. It was sorted in the end with eBay giving me a refund. But was a major ball ache. On a different forum for BMW motorbikes you have to pay a yearly fee to access the sell/buy section, so the owner of the forum has details, very rarely we have issues. More issues are related to how items are described and condition.
As a seller I only post now insured, tracked and signed for. Or we do the deal via eBay if it's abroad and use eBay Global Shipping.
I hope you recover the $$$.

I'm so sorry.

Even though this type of **** has been covered in this thread...
https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/read-this-before-posting-here.3683/
...considering that the frequency of **** attempts appears to be increasing, perhaps a separate, dedicated thread ought to be created.

Also, people, start using Google Lens! It's a game-changer if you want to check whether the photos of the jacket already exist online.

Should we know the "name" of that person so we can be prudent about dealings with that person on TFL?

Not wanting to add oil over the fire but, the modus operandi is quite simple the PM is;

'' someone that cant post directly here has a jacket your looking for, just contact him directly etc ......''

Just saying, keep away.

Mister FRENCH CANCAN, I am truly sorry to hear that your payment was stolen (that a registered member took your payment with no intention of shipping you the jacket you bought).

I am wondering if PayPal is able to run security/fraud checks on who you “stole” your $$, the PayPal account that was used and tracking to their financial account. It may turn up nothing or may find something useful.

TFL Admins, do you keep records or can you run reports on the IP address used at the time of TFL account registration? Thinking that all info that the perpetrator(s) input when registering is useless/fake, try detecting the the IP address fingerprint that may be available if they weren’t using a VPN.

It would be good if our members followed a “safe” process to use before they buy from a “new” member. (Having other “known members” vouch for a new member’s “proof of previous sales”.)
If the member cannot get anyone to vouch for them, and if you still want to proceed, use a method of payment that has a guarantee such as PP Goods and Services or similar. Spend the extra $30 in this case could have helped greatly in refunding the loss.
Just my opinion of course.

Thanks for your message . Names are "John Miles" (aka/ stone mace ) and other "Wayne Tony (aka /sammatthy). Also received today an offer to "fedralman" same way. "New in town" members and their messages disappear when I go back to them and tell them about Fraud . They contact WTB posts. Have a marketplace Instagram called "Mister Frenchancan" bought and sold more than 800 pieces in 25 years . Times have probably changed. Never had one problem in 25 years . Will start to be more vigilant and be careful .
