In the 56 cm size, or 7 in the US, a French hat was a must.

I have a soft spot for them.

It's hard to find quality Morreton, because they weren't a leading brand on the French market.
I have several in my collection, but few are special.
Morreton Chamois 5.jpg

This one stands out for its color, felt finish, and color combination.
Morreton "Chamois" in the shape of a "Diplomatique", for us Italians; "Lobbia" for the rest of the world; "Homburg."
Morreton Chamois 6.jpg
The color is marked on the paper label, but the sweatband is quite fragile; I don't want to damage it.
Morreton Chamois Interno.jpg
Finely lined, it's a high-end hat.
These are the measurements for the "Diplomatique." The curled brims, finished with a trim in the same color as the felt, are 6 cm. The hatband is 4 cm high, and the lowest part of the crown is 10.5 cm.
Morreton Chamois 7.jpg

I bought it on impulse, hoping, but alas, it's intended for the "lucky" ones with small sizes.

Being a more formal hat it is rare to find them in more adventurous colour combinations. Beautiful!

Cool find, Jeff. Motsch sourced their hats, but always went for quality.
Did they always source? My understanding is the Hermes bought them in 1991. What was their interest in such a purchase? Just the name? If I remember correctly, they don't even sell hats under the name Motsch anymore.

Hard to say. So far all the hats I've handled from them were sourced, but it could well be that in the earlier days they did make them themselves. Same as Berteil possibly, who certainly made hats themselves but outsourced later. I've seen hats with both Hermès and Motsch branding on them, so it could be that Motsch was a strong enough brand name for Hermes to buy them. Slap the Hermès brand on most anything and the price goes up to ridiculous proportions.

Morreton 'imperméable' in color "mistigri". Qualty: 'Monitor Satin 09'
It's a stingy hat, not sure to wear it brim down or up. The felt is fantastic!
Not sure about the age. Who can help?

Cool find, Marcel. Sweatband, size sticker and liner suggest a later production by them. Late sixties or early seventies likely.

That's a pretty one, Stefan.

Mossant unlined homburg in brown grey. Size 56 with the brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Looks unworn and is quite lightweight for a homburg at 116 grams. It has a textured sweatband, which makes me think it is reasonably early, forties likely.
