Great stuff!

Lucky Strike, you should hunt down the marvellous book, "The Leisure of an Egyptian Official" by Lord Edward Cecil. He was a civil servant in Egypt just after WWI, parts of it are simply hilarious, Lord Edward complaining intensely about the butler who brings his breakfast in the morning and invariably trips and bangs and crashes the silver, much hand-wringing and anger about fluctuating grain prices, hobnobbing it at various official bunfights. Brilliant and highly amusing book - reminds me, I really must read it again.
