Goat v. Sheep v. Cowhide

Actually the weight does make a difference. I can wear goat in spring and summer (I have 4 jackets in this hide). But I can't wear my heavy cowhide in that weather. Sure, a heavy hide doesn't provide warmth in the extreme cold, but IMO heavier jackets are tough to wear as soon as it heads to 70 degrees (F) and warmer.

Perhaps I am missing something(since I've seen this before)...but why would anyone want to wear a leather jacket if the temp is 70 degrees or above..?

Maybe you are missing something. I wear a jacket comfortably to 25 degrees - well into the 70's. If there's a bit of wind up you need one.

Just a followup-I got a US Wings Indy jacket in goatskin. Very nice...very shiny. Washed it to dull it down a bit. The hide is awesome and the jacket seems to be VERY well made. On my way to patinaville!
