It's been a while since the last Sinatra thread, and I caught the last five minutes of Tony Rome on AMC this morning. Great hats!

Me neither, I was just thinking of all those shots I'd seen of him crooning to bobby soxers, his well oiled pompadour prominent, during the fourties. Not really an important point. So, why did I post it? I'm going for 10, 000, baby!!:)

Frank started to thin out on top after he broke off with his steamy relationship with Ava Gardner!!
Aggravation of "that kind' is known to do that to some gents!!lol
That's about the time he took to wearin, his trademark fedoras.

Initially it was more "cover-up" than a "style" for him.
His thinning hair is very evident in these photos;

It's also the same time he recorded his greatest music on Capitol Records.
One of his best albums, "In The Wee Small Hours" is a homage to Ava.

The lyrics to the title tune, says it all!!

In the wee small hours of the morning
While the whole wide world is fast asleep
You lie awake and think about the girl
And never ever think of counting sheep

When your lonely heart has learned its lesson
You'd be hers if only she would call
In the wee small hours of the morning
That's the time you miss her most of all

I'm more a Dean Martin fan, myself...
Me too. Dean was COOL; Frank was a punk, a bully and a prima donna.

I read somewhere that Dean dropped out of their 1988 reunion tour as a result of one of Frank's hissyfits. Seems that Frank stopped by Dean's hotel suite after a show to ask him out for dinner and found him eating a pasta dinner all by himself. Dean declined the invitation, saying he wanted to turn in early. Frank threw a fit and proceeded to dump the plate of pasta on Dean's head. Dean calmly got up and walked to the bathroom to clean up saying, "Don't be here when I get back". He left the tour and flew home to California that night.

And they were both in their 70's. Some people never grow up[huh]

One thing about Sinatra - no one ever looked more natural in a hat. Talk about ""Owning the look"...he practically patented it.

I think that to this day, the image many people carry of a stingy brim fedora would be a picture of Frank Sinatra. He was a natural.

Now I've figured out how to post images, yay!

Anyhow, regarding Frankie being a natural in his hat, let us not forget the older, wiser fellas that were just as (if not more) natural in their hats.

See above pictures. :D
