On page 60 of Mick Prodger's, "Luftwaffe vs. RAF" (clothing edition), is a photo of the "Teddy Bear Suit" which was the liner for the 1930 "Sidcot" flying suit. The photo has the simulated brown fur fabric side facing in.
I've seen photos of Guy Gibson VC DSO DFC early in the war wearing what apparently is the Teddy Bear suit alone - fur side out. See The Erskine Press' cover of "Living With Heroes" as an example. He is also wearing a heavy knit scarf and probably more layers under the flying suit.
There is another photo in The Erskine Press' book, "We Will Remember Them", showing him full length wearing the suit with '36 pattern boots.
Maybe Gibson didn't like collars at this time?
