Even a very luxurious jacket could be a beater jacket. Any jacket can be the jacket you wear everywhere and treat like ****

How do you guys define a "go to jacket". It's a phrase I have often heard here. For me it's a jacket that's easy to put on and comfortable to wear. Sadly that doesn't apply to my high end jackets,. My less than perfect Cirrus jackets are my go to jackets!

I think of a "beater" as one a guy wears changing the oil in his car without worry of damage, etc. I think of a "go-to" as like you mentioned, comfortable to wear.

That's a good definition of a beater jacket, mines a Barbour.

Agreed. I beat the **** out of my jacket which is made out of Shinki which is a rather expensive leather. That's how leather jackets should be treated IMO

Even if I could afford several leather jackets, I don't think I would 'reserve' any of them or treat any better than the other.

Exactly that. I have one leather jacket that straddles the boundary, and that's my Wested Raiders. It's a beater in that I'll take it places (hot weather places - it was bought as a lighter leather for Summer wear) where I might think twice about having an expensive jacket, and not give it so much concern.

As to go-tos.... Well, all my other jackets are go -tos, depending on what shoes I'm in.... Gonig uber casual in denim, my HWM has become a real go-to. It's probably the most utilitarian of all my leathers.

Hey everyone,
I'm usually not the only-own-one guy. Though I always admired these people! And so I guessed leather jackets are the perfect starting point of being that guy. It took me 6 months of research and a lot of good will and patience of fellow loungers. But I'm content with the outcome I guess. By now I haven't had the urge of getting another. I love to look at all your great jackets though. But it's so great to have found the perfect one for me. At least that's what I'm saying now.

I was an 'only-one' guy back in the day.... and that one was a Perfecto-style jacket. Things changed, though, when I starte working full time and felt that a Brando-style was a bit much for wearing to the office, so I bought myself a toned-down cafe racer style as a second jacket. Then I "discovered" brown leather, and wanted something other than only black. That, in a roundabout way, led me here. Now I have seven keeper jackets, four or five to sell shortly, and about ten more on a wishlist...

Problem for me is the Scottish climate. Temperatures rise and fall from day to day, so while it was A-2 weather on Monday, yesterday and today it was Dust Bowl weather, and if it continues to fall I can see myself reaching for my Irvin again!

The weather is zig-zagging here as well. But I just layer underneath the jacket. T-shirt, thick sweater, or hoodie, whatever. Works quite well at the moment.
At 20 celsius, when it’s too hot for the jacket, I just don’t wear a jacket.

I've spent the last couple of weeks oscillating between my FQHH Bootlegger, Bison Dustbowl, goat Wested Raiders, and a cotton Harrington. Wearing the latter today, but I could have done with the Bootlegger - it's definitely cool, and wet, again. Would have pulled the Bootlegger on this morning, actually, but last night I started giving it a coating of Pecards, and it's only half done. Got to finish that tonight and give it a good buffing.... It's been stored over the Winter and I found one small area that was beginning to feel a little dry, so I figured it was worth giving it a rub over. Moths got in to the lining, but fortunately only a handful of very small holes in the wool, easily stitched up.

Would you recommend Pecards on veg-tanned HH like the liberty HH by BK?

Sure, but it will darken it a bit.
Be careful not to use too much, and avoid the stitching as best as you can. A couple of thin coats rubbed in should do the trick.
But you shouldn't need it for awhile. Only if you want that darker water resistant look.

Yes, it's not something you'll need to do that often. My Bootlegger is five years old and has been worn hard, and I'm probably still overdoing it a bit by doing the entire jacket...

OK. It's just great to know as it's my first leather jacket. I think it'll take some years before I need that. But it's quite hard to get your hands on Pecards here anyway.
Still, the liberty hh ages really quickly. Little scratches rub the finish off very easily. My right wrist got a little beer shower as well which still shows.
I can't say if I like the rapidness of the agingprocess yet. Maybe it's better for a person who has more than one jacket. Plus the scratches do not rub in like the horween cxl. Not at all. It makes me feel like I gotta be extremely careful with the jacket. I don't know if any of you have any experience with this leather. Maybe more than one year. Might be interesting to get some insights.

Dr. Jackson's Hide Rejuvenator should knock down those lighter areas and blend them in.....but again, the jacket will darken a bit.

Love that stuff. Use it on older jackets from time to time, as well as leather gear.
