My Ecuador Hat arrived today.

Let me tell you it is a sweet hat. The felt is soft but not like butter, it holds its shape real well.
It has no bound edge, but the edge is folded over on top, not stitched. Overall a great hat, I would recomend it to anyone.
Here it is out of the box...

all I did was dry bash it, I pinched the front together I plan on leaving the center dent.
a pic after the pinch...

Hopefully I will get a photo of it on my head soon..

It really is a good hat, from the looks of the sweat I would think it was an older hat if not a vintage one. Anyway the fit is great and now I have another broad band to go along with my Adventurebilt.
Yes it has a really non taper look to it, I favor a 2 3\4 brim, this one is 2 1\2 but with the tall crown its a great look.
Thanks Dean, AS YOU KNOW, I love the thin ribbon, but this with the center dent and tight pinch, gives it a classic thirtys look. I think so anyway.

That's a "Welted Do"!

Sorry, the pun was there for the taking, and I couldn't resist!

RBH, that's a swell-looking hat. Like you, my cut-off for small brim size seems to be 2 1/2 inches (no Frankie/Stingy/Rat Pack for me), and this one's a beaut.

You say it's new? Looks old with that edge. Would that be a true welted edge, sort of a Cavanaugh-style look?

Nice color, too. I'll have to check this place out.

.

I looked under the sweat, I beleive it is a vintage though I cant guess what age. The price was what grabbed me,[on OFAS] but the quality seems to be there.
Maybe I will be able to get a few liner shots tommorrow.

Questions, questions!!!!

RHB,

I am not sure I understand!
I checked Hippodrome Hatters web site and saw 2-3/4" and 2" brimmed hats, but no 2-1/2" listed.

Is this a new hat and if so what is the item #? What did it set you back $$?

Or are they offering vintage or maybe dead stock or what? I am not clear on this hat.

It looks swell, I hope you'll show the sweat and liner and one with you underneath it!

Best wishes,

Sorry John,

I got it off OFAS, offered the lady 20 and she took it. I talked of this in the other thread. From what I have heard I now assume this is a vintage hat.It has the looks of a vintage and I will be sure to post some more pics soon.

and the tag under the sweat

sorry the pics are a little fuzzy, but i believe this to be a older hat. Maybe at least 20 years or so_One thing that makes me think so is the crown is taller than most hats now days. 'Most' modern hats have smaller crowns, or so it seems to me.
When I get a little more time I may contact the maker and see what I can find out.
