Hi. I'm looking for my dad's WWII registration card and it's proving very difficult. I've found the cards for three of my uncles and my great grandfather's WWI card. However, my dad was in the Navy while my uncles and great grandfather were in the Army. I remember reading somewhere that the Army, Navy and Air Force were considered one entity until after WWII. Is this true? I'm thinking, (I'm not sure how) this would have something to do with it being so hard to find my daddy's card. Thanks in advance.

Behind the 8 ball,..
The Army and The Army Airforce were a single branch of the service until just after the war. The Navy has always been a seperate branch, which at one point also included The Marine Corps,...if I'm not mistaken.

Rosie:

All branches of the US armed forces came under the War Department during
World War II; however, record administration for each branch was a separate
province. Eventually all military records were directed for storage at the
National Records Center in St Louis, Mo; while individual VA hospitals retained
patient records until such time as overcapacity necessitated bulk storage at
regional depositories throughout the country. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed
most Second World War files kept in St Louis; while regional VA storage sites
regularly destroy deceased files at periodic interval.

You might contact St Louis and chance finding your father's military records,
or perhaps call any VA medical facility that provided care to ascertain if his
medical file is still stored. The VA facility records office can run a computer check with a social security number.

Best of luck dear.
