Another Welcome from me as well, you certainly have landed in the right place to find out about hats. The folks here are a great bunch of people, all varying sorts from all over this planet and the amount of collective knowledge they have is astounding. It's also just a fun place to hang out, chill, share and relax or just learn. Though I'll warn you now WE are all Enablers of sorts here lol so the only real thing to worry about not spending too much and I wish you good luck hehehe.
Welcome to the Lounge. I don't post much in the Hat forum, but I do check in several times a day to see what is going on. I think you will find the members here to be friendly and helpful. PC
Hey guys, I would also like to take the chance to introduce myself. Especially because I already got some great help in a posting. So, let's start: I'm a rookie! Here and also in the hatmaker world. I'm living in Berlin, Germany. Enjoying the big city life, as well as our horse ranch one hour from downtown Berlin in the countryside. I own two quarter horses currently. Used to be more, but time is an issue. I do horses shows since 10 years and startet almost just as long, a small Showoutfit Label for Western Wear. Because it always was not easy to get the special US stuff here in Europe. So I sewing custom made Outfits for my clients and what makes this outfit perfect in the end? Right, a matching hat! It needs to match the outfit perfectly of course and also the showblanket and the horse color. But I always wanted to get into the art of hatmaking. So I started courses back in the day in Frankfurt a. M. and also in Bavaria. But the traditional hatmaking here in Germany is very different and mostly for horse racing events, stage appearances or in the herritage of the traditional german costumes. And that is sooooo quite different to western hats! So usually I work in the event business as we do own a wedding and event location. But since may 2020 we are out of business, as we're not allowed to open due Covid virus restrictions and no larger events, like weddings or celebrations can take place this year. And I guess at least until spring 2021. But we'll see... So I took the chance (to NOT getting depressed and thinking about everything we are loosing right now that we worked so hard for) and started an education here in Berlin during the summer with a master craftsman, or better woman, to learn everything about hatmaking. And its such a wonderful thing to do and I'm glad I found this amazing tradition. I usually just do just Western Hats as those are my clients and its my passion. So there will be a lot of stupid questions I'm afraid I'll have to ask you'll that even my teacher doesn't know about. So I hope you'll be gentle with me. Right now I cannot afford everything like I used to, but I'm doing my best to learn and work and pay back when time will get better. And I'm sure they will! So I hope I didn't put you all to sleep out there and usually my intention was to keep it short, well... Some things never work out! So I'm adding some of my current work.
Great introduction and fabulous of you to join the Lounge. I look forward to seeing more of your designs. I got the chance to visit Berlin just a few years ago and it was wonderful.
Thank you <3 I appreciate! Yes, Berlin is totally great and the people are veeeeery unique here in Germany. Very creative with words and their way to talk. It's hilarious!
Welcome! Always good to get some new perspective and always great to get involvement from a member of the "fairer sex." The hat forum can be pretty testosterone-laden and I hope you stick with it. There are some great folks here and we have a lot of fun.
I'm glad you're having me And I'm sure we're gonna have a great time! I will shop the pink and pale colors capelines nowbody of you guys wants...
I make hats for women so don't take all the pretty capelines. Check out TheTrimmingCompany out of the UK. They sell light weight felt fur seconds for about 10 Euros. The need a bit of shellac to finish/stiffen but the quality is good and great for experimenting with style development.
Thank you Belfastboy I will try this out immideatly. ...and I did by now. Now I'll wait for them to arrive soon. And hopefully it won't take too long.
