This is from the shooting of a film about the Norwegian war hero Max Manus, they did the scenes from the 1940 invasion and the 1945 victory celebrations around the corner from where I work. It was a bit unsettling to sneak out for a coffee and find the parliament building like this (not my photo):

Here's a Norwegian private, having fought with the British army, he's in re-labelled UK uniform:

Here's cheering throngs of people standing around the town hall:

Max Manus (Maximo Guillermo Manus) DSO, MC & Bar (born December 9, 1914 in Bergen, died September 20, 1996) was a Norwegian resistance fighter during World War II.

After fighting as a volunteer in the Soviet-Finnish Winter War of 1939/1940, he returned to Norway on the day of the German invasion of Norway on April 9, 1940. He was one of the pioneers in the Norwegian resistance movement, and was arrested by the Gestapo in 1941. He escaped to England for training and went back as a saboteur in the Norwegian Independent Company 1. He became a specialist in ship sabotage and sank ships that were important for the German Kriegsmarine using limpet mines, including the D/S Monte Rosa in 1944 and the D/S Donau on January 16, 1945. Max Manus eventually rose to the rank of lieutenant.

He was famous for being one of the most brilliant saboteurs during World War II, and after the war he wrote several books about his adventures. After the war, he started the successful office supply company Max Manus AS.

He was awarded the War Cross with two swords, the highest Norwegian medal for bravery (only Gunnar Sønsteby was awarded the version with three swords), as well as the British Military Cross with bar.

He lived in Spain for the last years of his life and died in 1996.

Here's a 1945 photo (That's the Crown Prince to the left, Max Manus to the right):

They used the actual 1945 car - it's considered a national treasure, and is seldom aired nowadays. It's still owned by the King - the nameplates A-1, A-2 and so on are reserved for his use:

If anyone has a cigarette lighter for a late-thirties Buick lying around, I'm sure the Palace would be grateful:

Great pics! Looks really authentic. Can´t wait to see the film. All the vehicles look so cool.
I´m always looking for films about WWII and it´s exciting to see if the newly produced ones manage to pull it off. Looking forward to the premiere.

See you

Takk for bilder!

There was a lot on the NRK news during the day yesterday and quite a big piece midday about it.

Looks absolutely wonderful but I'm worried that it won't have been released before we leave Norway.

Great photos, really looking forward to seeing the movie! Which day was this? Odd that I didn't notice anything.

Coca Cola bottle in the third picture though :p

(And I thought all the time you were Danish, Lucky Strike :p )

Great shots! About that motorcycle with a machine gun...do you know where I could get one? It would be GREAT in Los Angeles traffic!

That would be taking road rage to a new level, no? I think the bikes are available form time time - they were made in huge number. The MG-34 would be worse, unless you get hold of a de-commissioned, non-functional one...

This was Tuesday, I work right around the corner, so I popped out a couple of times to look at the spectacle.

Saw the spectacle on my way home from work.

Hopefully the film will be decent and even maybe reflect the less appealing sides of the characters personality.
However; I fear that it will not...

Typical, the one day I'm not in the city this happens ... :eusa_doh:

Can see lots of confetti from the film shoot lying between cobble stones by the university though, it's as if it's the days after the 17th of May or something.

Fantastic shots, Lucky Strike! I just saw the movie last night. Great attention to detail in the costuming. How was the film received in Norway?

Gorgeous vehicles.... Sounds like an interesting subject for a film too.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold your breath, at least not if the hero myth has taken root up there the same was as the cult of Churchill down here.

Seeing this, I'd have to say: I wouldn't mind being royalty. :)

I'd settle for having their money. ;)
