Very well written and interesting bit of golden era history. It has been 75 years since the 1947 “summer of saucers”. This June’s congressional hearings point out that the subject is still alive and well. Some are finding it hard to believe that Grownups are starting to take this seriously, others are saying what took so long?

After investigating the case, the gov still says “we don’t know.”
From a national security perspective, that is certainly worrying. At this point, I suppose my question is: did the incident really happen? Could it have been some kind of bug in the radar? If it did occur, I can’t help but think “Chinese”, although I have nothing to really base that on. Very weird.

Update: Apparently we can now say “case closed.” Those mysterious lights above U.S. Navy ships off California? It was the Chinese after all. That is frightening enough.

Today, July 8th, marks 75 years since the infamous Roswell UFO Incident. I think we can all agree that the First mistake was made when the press was allowed to report that a flying Saucer had crashed in Roswell, and then the military quickly denied it the next day and said it was a balloon. How could this not be a field day for conspiracy theorists? What I also find infuriating is the ”death bed statements”, decades later, of people associated with Roswell. How are we to judge the veracity of any of these statements? The fact that a whole library of research exists that argues it in both directions, only muddies the water further. Whatever really happened, Roswell has certainly become a part of American folklore. It is all too incredible to be true (or is it?), but I guess that is part of what makes it fun.

Think the moon landing was a hoax?
You are sooo behind the times. The latest conspiracy theory is that all mars rover images are fake. They were taken on Devon Island in Canada!
For what possible reason would NASA fake the rover missions? We are not currently in a space race and we don’t need a “win”.
Using Devon Island as a backdrop would be very dim Witted. In this age of Google earth, it would quickly be spotted.
Everyone knows that the real reason for the rover missions is that we are trying to make contact with the subterranean civilization that lives beneath the red planet.
Damned conspiracy theorists.

Aha! Clearly this supports the theory that the picture was actually taken on an island in Canada! when a photo accidentally is published showing one of those silver thermal blankets that you keep in the trunk of your car, of course you will need to come up with a RIDICULOUS story that, um, the descent rocket had a thermal blanket because —you know— rockets get cold. It’s all fake. The rover pictures all come from Canada. I’m now convinced.

My boss used to always say “budget IS policy”.
So, we got a boring 2023 budget document which dictates that the new office created to investigate UFOs should not bother looking at man made craft, but should pass those man made sightings to other qualified DOD departments. So, what does this imply that the new office should study?
It can be argued that this is just word parsing. However, having written many a budget myself, I feel fairly sure that the words were carefully weighed before making the final cut.
One more step on the road to disclosure? (Tiki puts on his tinfoil Fedora.)
Or, I suppose, it could mean that they should only study the “unknown” events… but then they go on to mention transmedium objects that can move between air, water, and outer space. So, I guess you could, in fact, be forgiven for going where the authors of these articles are suggesting…

Lest you think I have gone soft with this Under-Reported Good News business:

35 asteroids passed near to earth in the month of August.
In this case we can say “thank goodness for the vastness of space” because a million miles away still qualifies as “near”.
Another one will zip by on August 12.

One of my 3am fears is that another Tunguska Event could happen any Day with little or no advanced warning. God forbid that it happens in a populated area. Our little gem of a planet navigates a shooting gallery. The vastness of space is our main defense.

The headline is sensationalistic. (“Is this company working with alien technology in Nevada?”) That admitted, the article tries to stick to facts-based-reporting. At minimum, some curious details are brought to light. Start with the paragraph that begins with “for more than three decades…”. I am not sure where to place this on the tinfoil hat scale. Nine because of the high X-Files factor? Or only a 3 because it seems to ultimately deal in seemingly verifiable facts?

Dr. Travis Taylor has been the strongest addition hired by Bryon Fugal on Skinwalker Ranch the past two seasons on History Channel. He announced at this last seasons conclusion that he had been hired by Radiance Technologies.

Shortest day ever recorded!
But Why?
“Because the earth is spinning faster.” I almost snorted up my coffee. :)
But in fairness, they go on to mention some possible reasons for those of us who may not be complete idiots.
Anyway, that was my morning laugh.

Malfunction of the human-made measuring instrumentation. I'd have more respect for the people responsible for collecting this information if they had simply come out and said, "Okay, listen, we're only human and there was some sort of glitch in the equipment we designed and built that was almost impossible to detect. We apologize, and retract our previous statement. That day was no shorter than any other, we just screwed up. Thank you."

I believe we've had "visitors" since the dawn of our civilization. But so far they've all been friendly. Or non violent towards a lower ranked civilization.
We think our technology is great but we are still stuck in the same galaxy. Our visitor has the ability to travel between galaxies. I'd say they are at least a few steps above us.
If our visitors starts to show themselves to us then I'd be a little worried. Colonization never worked out for the indigenous people and that's what we are to the space travelers...

You might be right. As with so many things, I’d probably officially call myself an agnostic, meaning I just don’t know. However, I have been closely following the ufo story for about 45 years, with a critical eye. It seems to me that there is something to it. I can rattle off a number of mass sightings and sightings verified by radar with impeccable witnesses. But, at the end of the day, we always seem to be just one step shy of definitive proof. I am happy that the stigma surrounding the topic is starting to fade, and I look forward to the reports that these official organizations are promising. Even if the answer is “swamp gas.” I also have high hopes that additional USAF classified photos and videos will surface. Several good sources say they exist.

I‘ve noticed a trend: several bright/serious observers have been speculating that my standard idea of a ufo might be all wrong. …That they are not just nuts-and-bolts spacecraft from millions of light years away, but might be much stranger. Ideas tossed out there include that such distances might require a type of time travel component, or a consciousness materialization component, or an inter-dimensional aspect. All are high strangeness ideas that are above my pay grade, but it’s always interesting to hear ideas that are outside of the box.

Finally, I wonder how our civilization would react if, one of these days, a government were to cough up incontrovertible hard proof that your version of the story is indeed correct. Given all our new technology, experts are predicting that we will see evidence of life elsewhere within the next twenty or thirty years. I guess that needs to be taken with a grain of salt. And intelligent life is a whole different kettle of fish. But still, how would humanity react if the aliens-are-real hypothesis was definitively proven correct? Chaos or kumbaya?
