Portis with "Swansback" sweatband Unknown Model

First post to the Portis Path. This is one of my favorite everyday wearer hats. No thrills just a classic looking hat. Not sure of the age but I'm guessing late 30s to early 40s. I'm sure someone more familiar with vintage Portis hats might have some idea. It has a 2 1/4" brim with underwelt edge; approx 5 1/2" open crown with a 1 1/16" grosgrain ribbon. The hat is unlined but you can see where there use to be a sticker on the crown tip. The leather sweatband is unreeded. The sweatband is stamped, "Swansback Water Repellent "Cushion" Band," which I think Portis hat the patent or trademark. Not sure when Portis introduced the Swansback sweatband but I have seen it on other Portis hats.

Terrific recent additions to this thread lately buler, David, and Harv. Although I only own one Portis, it is my favorite brand, usually leading the way in style in their day.

Portis Dixie: Let me introduce you to the Portis Dixie. It is a light weight blue/green felt color that is very unique. Unique in that is has some thickness, but takes a crease easily. It may have thickness, but it is a light weight. Subtle and clever design by Portis. The brim edge is subtle and my pic does it justice. The ribbon, the ribbon! It is a mid ribbon with color and texture. Very eye appealing. The fedora is an "oldster" and the onion skin liner covering just the dome is deteriorating. The smaller crown, overall design and dimensions of this hat makes it SWELL.

Really nice dense but lightweight felt. I couldn't get a good shot of the embossed "Swansback water repellant Cushion Band" embossing on the sweat.

2 1/2" bound brim, 1 1/4" grosgrain pug, 4 1/2" uncreased crown.

Love it! :D

Sue
I'm a sucker for a bound brim.

SBG that Portis is awesome! For some reason that ribbon gives a casual air to me. Looks like a great hat to grab when you're in a hurry that would go with all kinds things.
