Excellent find, Joe! Please also post it in the pre-1940 Stetson dress hat thread.
Thanks Garrett.. will do! Is there a thread for Stetsons in general... like there is for Dobbs... Cavanagh and such? I have a couple others 50’s 60’s didn’t find anything other then date specific or the open road thread.

Stetson has such a vast range of models and a rich history to boot. Too much for a single thread. There are more than a few Stetson threads (No. 1, 25, Clear Beaver, 100, Nutria, etc.) and even a Standard Quality thread. The pre-1940 Stetson Western and pre-1940 Stetson dress get quite a bit of attention and are among my favorites on the lounge.

Yes true... you are right with what a wide array it would cover. Maybe a Royal Stetson or 50’s and newer Stetson thread would be a good idea. Posted this one in the Pre 40’s thread

Today’s newest arrival Stetson Standard Quality

View attachment 224524

Stetson Standard Quality Silverbelly
7 1/4 (as tagged). - Fits like 7 to 7 1/8
Super thin light and moldable Felt
1/4 thin ribbon
2 1/4 brim with 1/8 matching bound edge
5 1/2 Open Crown (4 3/8) as bashed
1 7/8 tan sweatband. Thin. Super soft and supple.

@M Hatman suggested this may be a ‘Kingston’ model... a predecessor of the Open Road. I have no knowledge other than that but this is one impressive hat!!

I thought I was getting this to check it out and pass it on to a friend whose size it would be more appropriate. Much to my surprise after unpacking and setting atop my head it fit perfectly. I am usually 6 7/8 to 7... my 7 1/8 hats have felt strips in the sweat so I can still wear them. I even had two 6 3/4 arrive that fit perfectly... no way this 7 1/4 was gonna fit... yet here we are. So looks like this one is going to be around longer than I planned.

This was one of my latest acquisitions while I have been on lockdown. Just received the other day, the Etsy site description was a 1960’s hat which I knew wasn’t correct. In my somewhat obsessive beginner opinion, I assume late 30’s- early 40’s (please correct me if I’m wrong). Pretty cool hat, but needs some sweatband sewing. Unbelievable how light it is at 2 3/4 oz, oh and with a 2 1/2" brim. Anyways nice to meet you all and hopefully I am posting this correctly

Welcome to the Lounge! I think you are in the ballpark with the early '40s. The model name seemed to run throughout the Forties, but the ribbons got wider as the decade progressed. Another version of yours with several ads to go along with the hat here:

Sweet, thanks. I've always needed a 'personality builder'. Originally I thought early 40's due to war efforts, hadn't realized that it was a lightweight, or perhaps that was their marketing scheme for cutting down on materials. Can't wait to hopefully resew the sweat so I can wear it even if it's just inside and to the grocery store as we are in lock-down for another month.

I think I scored pretty good on this one. A wider brim 1950's Cavanagh in just excellent condition in a beautiful Pecan color. I can't believe nobody bid on it, so I got it for $50. Already had a pretty nice diamond bash, so all I did was just even it out a little and it's good to go. Super soft thick felt and perfect sweat and liner. I think it will be a favorite.

2-5/8" brim
4-1/2" crown at the center pinch
5-5/8 open crown

Our esteemed member Randy @Rmccamey found this Churchill hat, which wasn't in his size and he thought of me (bless him). A Churchill hat was lacking in my collection, so we were set up for an exchange.
Here's the Churchill beaver 50. Silverbelly I guess, which seems to vary between light grey and beige with some green (yikes!) tones in there, depending on the light. Quite stiff but easily moldable. I don't own an Open Road, but this is what I would imagine they'd be.
The hand of the felt is what really makes this hat; it's exceptionally smooth and lovely to the touch. Not a thick felt, but certainly not a lightweight hat at 131 grams. The brim binding is well done and very thin (the way I like it) and the sweatband is sturdy but supple. The liner is a glorious wine red. I'm guessing 1950's, but that's just a stab in the dark really. Brim at 7cm and crown 10,5cm at the center dent.
Thanks, Randy!

Great find: congrats. The stitching should be fixable. Welcome to the lounge.

This isn't a new hat, but I've replaced the band as an alternative to a new hat. This is a Stetson Aficionado with a black ribbon replacing the standard brown one:

About a month ago, I ordered a Lock & Co. Napoli sisal hat from a site called BrogueShop. The hat should have looked like this:

But instead, it looked like this (just for laughs):

COA (Crushed on Arrival)...

I got a prompt refund ($360) which I invested in my hat from Panamahatcollection.
