Cambiaghi homburg in grey woolfelt. Size 56 with the bound brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Brim curl is still a bit wavey due to poor storage and it has some mothdamage on the underside of the brim. Cambiaghi was a manufacturer specialised in woolfelt, but we rarely see homburgs made out of wool. Reason is that they often were "Sunday best" hats and/or aimed at customers who could afford furfelt.
This one is probably a forties hat. The sweatband mentions the 9 grand prix, the last one of which was 1937, so it is later than that date. They did a pretty good job on it: the hat weighs 137 grams.

I was looking for cheap straw hats and came across these two on the Gamble & ***n website.
The Havana “Panama Style” hat in tan paper straw that goes for £19.99

and the Santiago (also “Panama style hat”in palm fibre straw. This one goes for £25.

You get what you pay for. Not hats I’d recommend to anyone here, but they’ll do a job for me.
The (glued on) ribbons will be replaced by pugs.
For the Santiago, one of these…

And for the Havana…

Knox Vagabond - 7 1/8 LO
Lightweight Taupe Felt
5 1/2 Crown Open
2 5/8 brim with raw edge
5/8 grosgrain ribbon

I’ve been after a Knox Vagabond for quite some time but I just hadn’t had any come my way till now. These very lightweight felts are the same as Dobbs Cross Country which I am lucky enough to have an example of in black. This one popped up on my radar with a fair Buy It Now price and color scheme that should get some wear… so I had to go for it.

The felt as expected is extremely thin and light. The color is a lighter taupe color that shifts towards greens in certain lighting. The darker grosgrain mid ribbon also shifts towards greener hues. The sweatband is showing some signs of breakdown/dry rot and my experience with the Cross Country led me to be very careful with it as these thin sweats are very prone to dry rot. Based on other clues, I did expect to find a 1940s era manufacturer tag underneath however was slightly surprised to find a 1950s style tag instead. My estimate then would lean to very early 50s if not late 40s on this one. The felt itself has the very thin super malleable properties you tend to find on 40s felts.

I’m really happy to add this Knox Vagabond to the collection…. I really have grown to like this style of “weekender/summer” felts with the mid ribbon. Similar in some ways to Stetson’s *******

Posting this here, as well as in the Worth-Walden thread, to get more exposure for this great hat. This one is wildly soft. It came as an open crown hat, seemingly never bashed or even worn before. I was so excited I steamed and creased it before I took any photos. The brim is 2 3/8" and the crown 4 1/2", as bashed. I can't decide if it's a very dark gray or a non-shiny black.

That all may be unnecessary to say however, since I may never take this off, it is that nice a hat. It has a union made tag and the size tag reads 7 1/8, but the reproduction tag seems to say 7 1/4. Either or, it is an absolute perfect fit on me.

I have a few hats of that color. I usually refer to them as charcoal.

Apparently the United Hatters, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (UHCMW) was active in Texas until 1983, so I'd guess this hat pre-dates that.

Also, upon further research, the hat may be a Resistol body. That would explain the feel of the fur and the reorder tag.

Sools Fifth Avenue fedora in a grey colour called Flandres. Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Not sure who made this one. The size label is Flëchet, but the label under the sweatband is Sools. Nice hand to the felt and good proportions with a nice squarish crown on this one. Weighs 117 grams. Couldn't leave it for the price. I've got one of these in black as well.

First post, and it's good to be here!

The hat that's inbound is an Open Road Twenty Five with practically no wear. It may have be made in the 1970s. Several other Stetsons and a Resistol have arrived in the last 2 weeks. I'll be sure post those, soon.

The Open Road hat shown is Silver Belly? It seems too light to be fawn.
