This medium brown Knox Flying Cloud I thought would be a great companion piece to the grey Knox Flying Cloud I picked up about a year ago.... which I really love.. The grey one is one with a “Custom Edge” (Cavanagh) and great feel to the felt. This one I think may be a slightly later issue as it has an underwelt brim and glued in liner typical of maybe a very late 60s early 70s release. It does however have the VERY cool flying cloud liner as does the grey one.. though less of a golden look to it. They both have 1 3/4 brims and this one has a slightly taller crown at 4 3/4... though I think it is just how they are bashed... open is probably about the same. This hat along with a Charcoal grey Charles Knox hatter I received... both originally sold at Jacob Reed’s Sons in Philadelphia from a retail price of $30 marked down to $15. A very cool little hat

Picked this up last week.
Gallinat homburg in brown. Size 57 with the brim at 6cm and the crown 11cm at the center dent. despite the French sounding name, I'm fairly certain it's German made. The "rein haar" and "handarbeit" are indications of the German manufacture. There's no other label inside the hat besides the size label. It was sold by Rottaler Huthaus, Eggenfelden, Germany. I have another Gallinat in my collection and I've seen another once, but it's not a brand that's seen often. Weighs 133 grams, with a very nice hand to the (very soft) felt.

Unfortunately not my size (too wide for me alas).

Good to see they made it over without much delay, Garrett. The 500 pound gorilla the postal services employ wasn't quarantined by the looks of it. Glad the hats didn't suffer. Phew!

Wow, amazing. If only it was a 1/8! Or, in your case, a 5/8!
Optimo Montecristi in 7 1/2...just one size too small for me. Even at that it sort-of-almost-kinda-fits. :(
The brim is 2 1/2” on the sides and 2 3/8” at the front. Looks to be in NOS condition. Sadly, this gem will have to find a new home.

Continued....

Thanks, Bill. Someone is going to really love this hat.

I've had it about 10 minutes now, so I haven't had time to photograph it properly. That said, I'm tickled with my first new hat in several years: A Stetson Stratoliner Milan in Cognac. View attachment 233027 View attachment 233028

love your Strat. I think Toquilla makes for a finer dress hat, but Milan is my favorite summer hat material. It’s more durable and resilient than other “straws.”

A new-to-me Habig hat arrived today. It was advertised as new/unused, but seems to have been stored poorly. The brim seemed squeezed up at the back and left side.

I searched the Lounge for information on the steaming and brim shaping process and nervously made my first ever attempt at it. The brim also didn’t snap particularly well, so I steamed the front and shaped that as well. Not perfect - you can see some bumps there, but pretty happy with my first try.

Any advice about getting it smoother would be appreciated.

It will come around, Gary. Sometimes a hat needs a few of those steambaths to remember what it was. Sometimes I use the back of the hatbrush right after steaming to remove creases from the brim (or flatten it somewhat). Steam it, set it on a flat surface and run the back of the hat brush over the brim round the hat. Then steam again.

Boy, do I have a lot of catching up to do on this thread, as well as posting... Good lock down activity I guess.

I really love the Flying Cloud clipper ship liner on these. I am a big sailing ship fan, and the clippers of the mid 1800s are one of my favorites. Nice color of brown too. Some hats just need a feather.

Picked this up last week.

Lovely tone of tan/brown on this one Stefan. Have you been finding many hats of late? I've kind of gotten out of the loop.

Very nice! I'm drawn to the unusual one in the bottom right corner. Are we going to see a specific post on all of these?

All of these hats you posted over the past few days are off the hook Brent! I enjoyed each one of them. Is this clone refurbished by Art? The colors are sure great.

I really kind of like these current Strats that Stetson has put out. I have a Hemp that needs to have the dust shaken off and brought back in service. Nice, versatile color.

Another great one Brent!
