Not so much mysterious detective work, Nathan.I love that - so much fun!
But if there is a mystery involved, please don’t tell me about it. I am not a great detective even though I love it so much!
More like academic nurding

I have a hat that seemed fine until I brushed it and then OMG, the release of cologne scent just about knocked me out. I have vasomotor rhinitis which is a non-allergic hypersensitive immune response to, well, just about anything. Cosmetic fragrances are especially my kryptonite. Uhg :-(Well, I might need one. Not surprisingly, the stink is not only in the liner, but also the hat and/or sweatband. I just took the Twenty-Five out for a quick shop and by the time I got home the slight smell in the hat had activated.

I'd vote trilby on that one.Fresh out of the box, a Stetson Royal Deluxe -- Would this be a Trilby?
Or perhaps a stingy brim fedora???

Beautiful!Pre-Stetson Mallory Twelve-Fifty
cool… another Failsworth Nice unlined hat.Failsworth in grey.
Does someone knows the age of it?
The spots on the hat is steam which has to dry, because it was in a not so good shape.

That is a nice Mallory, NathanAnother wonderful Stetson-era Mallory. I don’t own any Mallories from before the take-over, but I am thrilled with each one that I have from after.
This is my second “aristocratic quality” (which is, I believe, the second best tier). The felt looks and feels like it might have some wool in it.
This boasts a very nice top-stitch fold-over brim, but the ribbon is surprisingly a touch misaligned, which is a first for me with a hat from a big-name maker.
As suspected when purchased, the sweatband is coming undone from its 1940s style stitching; but other than that and a few stains this fellow has a lot of life left in him.
Nice to add another original 1940s style “adventure” hat to my collection.
