The only markings on the hat are the Meyer logo on the liner, and an imperial only size tag ( no metric size) with a union stamp on the back of the size tag. No other tags, markings or embossing anywhere. Hat ribbon is sewn in ( not glued... but liner is held in with glue spots. Liners really clean. Felt feels very similar to a modern 6x stetson Open Road. Brim snaps up or down nicely. Im guessing prob from sometime on the late 80s or 90s. It hasnt been around enough to get dirty so it cant be too terribly old

Meyer is still in business. Maybe they can tell you who made it.

I don’t hate when I buy an unknown sized Kevin O’Farrell (thinking I’m going to flip it) and it turns out to be a perfect fit … my wife on the other hand.

It even came with a custom band block (which was put back in backwards by the auction house and I had to struggle a bit to get it out).

Rehfus & Cie. Kehl - Rhein "AERIFOR", FP 6, 120 grams, possibly early 1930s. The black Fur Felt is very dense with a fine Smooth Finish and is light in weight. It has a nice Form and the workmanship is of very high quality. The light weight Liner is stitched in which is less common. The overall condition is excellent. Rehfus & Cie. Kehl - Rhein became known in Germany and abroad for their Stiff Felt Hats. "AERIFOR" is from the English word "Aeriform" which means "having the form or nature of air" which is applicable to this Stiff Felt.

I believe the Liner Protector is made of Celluloid and has become brittle. It has also developed an amber tinge. A small piece of the Celluloid is missing in the lower left corner. The "AERIFOR" logo is a fantastic design.

Took a chance on a cheap hat last week. Looked kinda of Open Roadish in the auction pics and it came from Meyer the Hatter in New Orleans. It was cheap and looked reasonable clean so I took a chance.

Mailman just dropped it off today and its actually a nice little hat. Furfelt- not wool ( I was kinda worried about that). 2-3/4" bound brim with 5-1/2" crown... and it fits me perfectly. Felts in really good condition ( really clean) except for one little boo-boo/ scuff on the back of the crown. once I steam it Ill fix a little bit of something inside to support the character mark from the inside.. thin but relatively firm body and brim... Not sure who Meyer the Hatter got their house hats from, but its a nice little lid... Popped the crown out and it takes a shape well.... All this one needs is a bit of steam , smoothing, and shaping. I love new hat day!

I almost snagged that as I live in New Orleans and that's our local hat shop. I called the store to ask about it because I was unaware that they had ever sold anything self-branded and by the time I spoke with one of the owners you'd already bought it. He mentioned the names of several different hat companies that made them for the store but none of them really rung a bell for me and I've already forgotten who they were. I should have been taking notes!

Fun little Stetson got here today. Pics are straight out of the package... I havent done anything to it yet. 2-1/4 brim, wide edge binding and about a 5-1/4" crown. Really soft felt has a couple creases that will need some steaming and there are a couple stains on the brim binding but it should clean up nicely. clear part of liner is a bit crackly and noisy but its intact and liner underneath is really clean. Ribbons in good shape. Sweatbands is in really good shape and has a really cool embossing. ( did anyone ever get to full story on this style of sweatband embossing?) AND IT FITS!........ its needs some steaming, smoothing an shaping, but I have a good feeling about this one

"Hausmarke", Wool, Back Bow, 57 cm, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. The Crown Patch is missing because this Wool Soft Felt had a Crease Clip. It's possible the Crown Patch had a brand mark but not from the manufacture. This based on on a number of Soft and Stiff Felt Hats from with similar paper labels. I was able to recently solve one of the of these mysteries ( See https://germanaustrianhats.invisionzone.com/topic/15-berlin-gubener-hutfabrik/#findComment-5645 ) but not this one ( See https://germanaustrianhats.invision...h-no-company-mark-and-arbeits-no-paper-label/ ). I am pretty sure the hats came from one of the major Eastern factories that didn't survive WWII.

The Felt is a Charcoal Gray and is of a heavier weight. I kept the Off Center Crease caused by a now missing Crease Clip. The wider width Curled Brim has a triple stitched Over Welt with a taller Crown. The wide lighter gray Band has a Back Bow. This more Formal Style / Type of Soft Felt was popular in the time period. The overall all condition is very good. I very much like finding this old Wool Soft and Stiff Felt Hats because they were worn by the masses and saw more heavy wear.

I was a bit worried about this one... the seller evidently dropped it of at the Post Office drop box with a fed Ex label. Happily today my favorite mailman showed up at my door with it!

Its a nice little Worth Walden. Seller said it belonged to her Grandfather who retired as President of the Armour Fine Meats plant at the Ft Worth Stockyards ( I worked in Ft Worth for many years and retired from Tarrant County there. Ive driven past the old Armor Site in the Stockyards many a time... love hats with a bit of a connection to my life)

Felt is in nice shape, Sweatband, Liner and ribbon are really clean. 2-3/4" bound brim, and crown is 6" when popped out open. Its got a few lines from grandpas cattlemans crease sitting there for years. Time for some brushing, steaming and smoothing. Also need to do just a bit of coaxing to get a slightly shrunken leather sweatband back to a 7-1/4... its just a hair snug and rides just a tad bit high

Lets see what I can do with it!

I got an interesting one in this afternoon. I was expecting a Barbisio-branded fedora sold by the famed Brooklyn Jewish hat store, Ferster (or possibly the Jerusalem branch, but it did not seem likely). I wanted to determine, if possible, if they were licensing the name and branding and where the hats would have been made, if so. My likely candidates were the factory in Colombia or Bollman in PA.

What I received, however (from Ackworth, GA!) was a Chassidic up hat. It is, as I have posted in the past, a hard, very large brimmed felt hat with a flat, not creased, top. This one is older, harder and shellacked more visibly under the satin lining than the Fernandez y Roche I have posted in the past. This one is as hard as a vintage bowler. The size tag is only in cm, seemingly ruling out a US manufacturer. There are no white labels that I can see under the satin lining so all of these things will remain a mystery to me. It was filthy all over, so at least the cleaning was fun.

J. Heinr. Ita Wien "Extra Qualität" "Etui", 56 cm, possibly late 1950s early 1960s. The Smooth Finish Light Lime Green Felt is very Pliable and the Crown has an interesting Stitched Cross Pattern . The Brim Binding is a Dark Lime Green with Inside Dual Sawtooth Stitching. The Mid Width Dark Lime Green Band has a sporty Bow Design.

This one was part of a lot and a bit of a mystery as it was stuffed into a derby for who knows how many years.

IMG_6762.jpeg

“Best Beaver Guaranteed” from the O’Rourke, Eubanks Hat Co. of San Francisco, California. Circa 1924 to 1934 (based on the store name). I would lean towards the earlier part of that decade as the primary brand for this manufacturer was Castle Hats — they began manufacturing soft hats in 1919 after being a wholesaler, jobber, retailer for a couple decades or more.
