"Is that some kind of costume?"
"No, YOU'RE wearing the costume."
"Are you in a play?"
"All the world's a stage -- and all the men and women merely players."
As time goes on I hear much fewer comments in the negative and much more of "great tie" and "nice hat". I see more cheap fashion hats and I wonder if this is giving the general public a greater appreciation of quality modern and vintage head wear and accoutrements. Sorry to go off topic like this but I do tend to ramble given ANY opportunity.
Do you work in a retro shop?
Because you're dressed like that.
This is just the way I dress everyday.
Oh.... (confused look)
Thank god someone else gets this one when they're out and about.
"Are you in a play?"
"Oh?! What play?"
"A very serious one, thank you for asking. Now, I'll take 4lbs of ground chuck - split in half - and two pounds of slab bacon, please and thank you."
Then they look at you like you're the biggest disappointment in the world; like you've told everyone else your secret but you're holding out on them because they're working behind the meat counter/sandwich counter/cash register/car wash/bike shop/bookstore...
(If I weren't immediately labeled a terrorist, I'd make up a convincing ID and flash it to people, "FBI. Now can I please have that tuna melt?")
Good to see a lurker posting! Glad you're tuned in!
Wish I had a nickel for every time this has happened.
We'd both be rich
Yes, I have had all of those.
My favorite was in a restaurant:
"Some of the patrons are curious if you are and actor. They say you look familiar"
"No, I only act stupid when I am drunk."
My favorite response when people comment to me at work is "They found me in the attic when they were renovating." Or when they ask me if I'm a Mennonite, I say "No, I follow the traditional ways of my people."
Reminds me of a group meeting we had with the principal of my son's school.
She said that they are going to have a chance to dress in their traditional garb. I said:
"Where does that leave the regular white guys? We come in dressed in a suit and tie?"
My Mexican friend nearly died laughing.
Holy Hand Grenade, this thread is still going?
Thank goodness this thread IS still going!
Those of us with very limited technology only get online once in a blue moon!
(or an eclipsed sun as the case may be
I dunno why, but that made me laugh really hard!
I would say that we are retrophiles. It sounds cool and kinda sexy.
I have been called an "antique".
So be it
Had a conversation at work today, referred to my friend as being old. (He was born in January '90 and I was born in November '90) and his response was that I'm an 'old-thinker' that I think like an old person. That's a new title I haven't heard before.
Well you started it.
I'd take it as a compliment
