Shave of the Day

Vintage scuttle
Cavendish Black soap
B. Altman & Co. pure badger brush
Genco 5/8 round-point
Gillette "Fat Boy"
Black Bear brand strop
Nivea a/s balm for sensitive skin

moustache and goatee went down the drain this time. Started with Genco, in the middle blood sugar dropped and finished hurriedly with Gillette....somehow an open blade combined with the low blood sugar shakes didn't seem too appealing.

J. Peterman 1903 Cologne???

Rmrdaddy,

Can you give a description of how the J. Peterman 1903 Cologne smells? I have been wanting to purchase it, but the pirces puts me off a bit without knowing how it actually is.

Cheers,

---Scott

I will confess that it is a bit hard to describe. I think it has a light wood base, think cedar, with sweet top notes and maybe a bit of amber, and maybe cinnamon. I absolutely love the 1903, but the scent doesn't last all that long though. I have a small travel atomizer that I decant into, and I feel it lasts a little longer that way.
IIRC they do offer a travel size spray bottle on the website. It is smaller, but also is less costly.
If you try it and don't care for it, PM me. I'm sure we can work out something.

I just picked up the Brush last week....I found a local Barber supply that had a 50% off sale on their entire inventory. Think it cost between 12 and 13 after the discount. Going back tomorrow to see about a new strop. :D

WOW! You stole that brush! Nice one bud!

I thought so, lol. Actually was the first Omega I've owned. The store has been there since the 50's and just recently decided to mark everything half price to move inventory so they can get some new stuff on the shelves. The strop, (they have 1 left.....I called to see lol) is a Koken, which I didn't know any new ones existed anymore.

Edit: picked up the strop, wasn't a Koken, it was an Illinois Razor Strop Co., and they found more stock (the clerk didn't know where they were). Picked up 3 of them, have 2 for sale on other boards.

Rikrdo is right...:eusa_clap
And that is not necessarily very good for your skin either.

I worked with a guy, he was a very nice guy, a little bit unrefined perhaps, but genuine. I discovered he shaved with cold water only, and in something like 2 minutes, you know, manly.
It answered my inner question of why he showed up every day looking like his face was lit up from within with a red lightbulb.
YEP, razor burn!
If you don't like scents, there are some either lightly or unscented products available. Heck, even witch hazel will help keep your skin looking good and your tone even.
Just my .02

Freebird, is this the bottle that this Bay Rum comes in, or did you re-bottle it?

sotd6-7-08009.jpg

Nope, that's the bottle that it came in. I've found out that it's marketed by Bath & Body Works, as C.O. Bigelow Bay Rum after shave balm. I've found it on ebay fairly cheap. It does have a strong aroma, which I like,it sticks with you most of the day...like the Ogallala Bay Rum.
