the Hunchback of Notre Dame legend Charles Laughton. Did you know that his wife, Elsa Lanchester, knew about Laughton's ***uality? Despite that the pair were happily married from 1929 until Laughton's death in 1962. Being *** was illegal in the Forties, (it was still illegal in Scotland until 1980) so he would have kept his ***uality secret from most people. Their marriage might seem to have been a cover for Laughton to avoid prosecution, but when he died, Elsa was clearly bereft.
