DOes that 'Linosair' have a sort of crepe feel to the fabric? I have quite a similar tie with that bold sort of cheap looking paisley. I would guess forties rather than twenties.

Crepe? I suppose it does yes. It's only about 45". I'd like to see a few more Linosair labels really - the ones I've usually thought to be from the 1940s have either that little raised fist, or are just plain, but in the large blade of the tie. That other Linosair that I showed a while ago, blue with the cross-hatched stripes is an almost identical label with the extra 'Crease Resistant' on it, and I had assumed that to be 1920s/early 1930s. I guess there's no definite way of confirming.

A few that I picked up today after I went to the archive. Came lucky really.

A 'Grenville' that needs a quick wash in a very ideal plaid, and a 'Munrospun' in a lovely plain bottle-green.



A really unusual one. No label, in a very soft wool, or maybe rayon mix. Can anyone identify the flowers? I think the middle one is Edelweiss, which might suggest it's an Austrian or Swiss tie, maybe? I suppose it could be true if the other flowers are alpines too. I really like it anyway. It's pretty fun, and I think the shade of yellow is great. I'm assuming 1950s.


EDIT: Had a quick search, and the blue one might be a variety of Gentian...

Thanks gents! No Bob I didn't mean my own collection was the 'archive' haha! I need to work on my phrasing I do my research at the local record office and there's a junk shop near there that sells some cheap ties.

Your collection looks stunning dh66! Looks like a pretty efficient way of storing/displaying them. I always struggle!

HBK - I'm afraid I don't own anything white other than shirts. I've toyed with getting some white trousers for a while and saw some nice ones in a charity shop the other day. I might have to go back and get them...

Thanks Eddie. I underestimated a little, so it may have to become a rotating display, either that or I need to find space for another. My collection has grown considerably since I found this group of enablers....I mean.... inspirational and encouraging online friends.

Thanks TT. I like the three flowers - really makes it into a lovely summery tie, but i get your point. It would make a much better tonal match with just the Edelweiss.

Dh66 - looking at your ties on my PC rather than my phone, they're even better! I love that 'I Like Ike' tie. Is that vintage?
I've got a nice rotating tie rack that holds about 60 ties - really useful and compact, as well as nice to use (it's motorized ;P). Although it does only hold a fraction of my full collection. I seem to just have ties hanging off the backs of saris, off banister rails, sat in piles, and then usually at least one stored around my neck!

deadstock Edwardian - 20s tie, probably from a sports / college outfitter.

the tie is only 36" long which means if tied with a four-in-hand there's only 7" of drop left.

label is on the back of the front blade:

here's a shot of the above tie being worn. i forgot to mention in previous post that when tied (with the narrow neck-band area in correct place) it ends up with the front shorter than the back.

so what gives ? is it a boy's tie ? made to be worn only beneath a V-neck jumper ? an unusual Edwardian sports style that died out ?

no, the rear side is shorter than the front, so you'd barely be able to make a knot.
