SunBody thin ribbon straw

This was waiting on me this afternoon. A SunBody straw fedora that I had the brim cut to 2 3\4 inches. Not only that but the edge was bound.
The gentleman that helped me [I have forgotten his name.. but I WILL CALL and find out] was very helpful, I told him I wanted a thin ribbon like the one on a Open Road along with the bound edge, he ask what color and I wondered what would go with the color of the straw, he suggested khaki! WOW it looks great, the SunBody hats are really easy to shape when you wet them. So this one has some tweaking to be done by me but it has a great fedora shape to work with.
This will make a great summer hat!!!
Here are some shots out of the box, I will post more when I put the shape to it.

I like it. Where did that one come from and did they do the ribbon and binding where you bought it?

Rusty...I was considering a Sunbody for the summer also...but I read (here somewhere) that it was a very heavy hat and that the quality wasn't there...yet I know a bunch of SASS guys that swear by them for summer time wear. Now you have one (or 3) and you're getting it customized from the company...I've checked their site out and saw that they have a number of fedora styles available. Did you get the fine or regular weave?

Yes they are a heavier type straw than a panama. BUT I do not notice that in the summer. My westerns have more brim than this one so that makes this one a little less heavy.
This one is the regular... [the cheapest one they have] the workmanship is fantastic from what I can tell.
I just did not like the 3 inch brim and they said they could trim it to 2 3\4 but would have to bind it. Well a bound brim was right up my alley so I went for it. I dont think come summer I will regret it one bit!

That sounds great Rusty...I love my PB Panama, but dread getting it wet. Something like this would be the perfect summer hat. I wouldn't have to worry about Florida downpours, and it would be cool and stylish enough for those days when felt is not a possibility...:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

That was my thinking on this, but I would really love trying the open crown one.... that would be fun to see what it would finish out like. That 5 3\4 crown could give an almost vintage look, I would think.

Very nice Rusty! :eusa_clap I agree that they physically weigh a little more than a panama, but to me the hat is much cooler. After wetting it it feels real cool in the heat!

I have two Sunbody hats, a cowboy style and a fedora with a 3 inch brim. However, my crown is not as tall as yours...my main problem with it. How tall is the crown on this custom one you got?

I am a big proponent of these Sunbody hats for summer. Plus, they're fun to wet and reshape/experiment on.

Thanks Bob, I got it from SunBody...

and yes they trimmed the brim and did the binding and the ribbon.
I have two western style hats from them and they are great hats.
I think if I ever order another I will get a 5 3\4 inch open crown and have the brim cut down and bound. I would then shape it myself.

Why is the fine job $$75.90 with horsehair and the fine one with hatband is only $58 ? The price of the horsehair hatband manufacture?

Is the finer hat less weighty? I bought one in Australia which was quite heavy.

Hello all,

Just chiming in here as well.

I bought my first sunbody hat early last summer. I live on a horse farm and needed something to keep the sun off my head and face while working around the farm (I get kind of sick of the sun and heat, my regular job is outdoors as well).

I was looking for a good straw hat, but found a lot of them when subjected to excessive perspiration kind of swell and lose their shape. I called Jackson Hole Hat co. and they recommended the sunbody hat for the reasons I stated above. I ended up ordering this hat. http://www.jhhatco.com/jh.nsf/product2!open&model=SUBDGUS3
When it arrived it fit very well. I did as they said and soaked it in water and reshaped it with a higher peak in the back with more slope to the front. I really like the hat, it fits well, is comfortable, when loses its definitive crown shape from hanging from a peg I soak and reshape. Yes it may be a little heavier material than other straw hats, but as was said, get it wet and it helps cool you off. Also, the tan color doesn't show the sweat mark so prominently. I give it a definite two thumbs up and would recommend it to anyone.

Currently, I am expecting delivery any day of my new custom cowboy hat from Rand Hats. I will let you know what I think when it arrives.

It is a little over 4 3\8s, that was why I was thinking of the 5 3\4 open crown. Although this one is not so short that it bothers me, I just like a tall crown.

Palm Leaf

I have had a couple of palm leaf western hats. You can dunk them in the water trough & reshape them over & over. I would love to get a thin ribbon like this for summer time. RBH, your taste are exquisite! gtd

Hang your Thin Ribbon hide! Now you've got me looking at the 3" Guat fine open crown with the bound edge & matching narrow band. I really like the looks of the Tear Drop fedora they show & would want it w/o the leather band but with bound edge & ribbon like yours. That is close to what I paid for the Campdraft!... Hello, my name is GT & I'm a hat-aholic.... gtd
