Just a bit of info because it might help someone out there: On two different occasions, our son actually got sunburned eyes when he was a kid. He is sandy/reddish haired and fair with billions of freckles and blue eyes. Both times his burned eyes were the result of sun reflection off water. The second time it happened he actually lost his sight. His face swelled into a balloon, his eyes were closed like slivers and were oozing. He was only about 10 years old and he went hysterical that he couldn't see. We rushed him to an eye specialist and he told him that if it happened again he was at risk of losing some of his eyesight permanently. It was one of the scariest moments of our lives. Needless to say, he became almost neurotic about not getting ANY sun. To this day, he has never had another sunburn anywhere and never sunbathes (he's 27 now). BE CAREFUL out there!!
