Austrian young man with hat (1928). I picked up this photo because of the hat's very interesting crease and over welt (?) + binding.

mayser, that's some interesting crease. I drew a picture of what it would look like from the top. The best way I can describe it is an ice cream cone with the ice cream falling over the sides of the cone. The cone is in the front.

Yes definitely unusual (it might be Alpine related). The over welt? (not really sure what is going on there) + binding also has me scratching my head.

The way der junge Herr is holding his cigarette, it looks like an ideal receptacle for the ashes. You'd just have to be careful not to knock any live coals in there.

Thanks Rusty. Except for the leather jacket (replace with a canvas one), this is how I recall my grandfather dressing every day but Sunday.

His real name was Mike Meyer. He changed it to Disfarmer to distance himself from his family's agricultural roots.

Interesting. I can understand why a person would want to do that in those days of hard times and drudgery.
I am also proud and thankful that my ancestors didn't think the same way.
