Here is an old excellent quality derby. It was suggested to me that it may date to around the time that HCA was formed, so early thirties (seem about right?).

It is in very nice shape, with the only flaws being a bit of wear on the front right of the ribbon and front of the brim binding. Sadly, at 7 1/2 it is a bit too large for my noggin (cue sad violin music). [emoji20]

Recently acquired from Lounger mmbarnes, this Black Knox Superfine with a contrasting, wine-colored ribbon. Very nice felt - perfect shape; soft, pliable and easy to mold. Originally sold by Charters-Patterson of Springfield, OH. Quick online research shows C-P starting up business in 1939 and going out of business sometime in the 60s or early 70s.

I'm little slow getting around to seeing this. Looking good, Jim. 'Tis one beautiful hat.

Thanks for babysitting it until you offered it to me. You help shore up my Homburg confidence, as you wear them with aplomb. This is my (currently) one and only Knox - and it's a humdinger!
My pleasure, my friend. Thanks for the kind words.

It's good to see you "homburgering." It's just such a great, classic design. And you wear them very well.

And that's one heck of a great start for your Knox collection!

Enjoy

Excellent Knox

I haven't hunted for manufacturing labels yet (none easily visible) but I believe from the 1930s. The customs stamps affixed to the Knox hat box were in use from 1930-39. No store imprint, likely purchased from the Knox Hat Store at 40th and Fifth Ave., seen in the postcard just to the south of the NYPL lion. The hat is in remarkable condition, perhaps never worn. The box is quite heavy and also in good condition, with both leather straps and snaps functioning. Will post some better daylight photos in a few days.
