I was wondering, do any of you know where to download some 40's or 50's items tomy Sims 2 game? All I can find are rockabilly/pinup themed items and dresses. Which could be useful but not the style I'm after.

Give me links lol

Oh man, before my old computer crashed I had hundreds and hundreds of vintage items for the Sims 2 - men's, women's, and children's wear, furniture, decor, etc, etc, for the 1930s-1960s! I got them mostly from modthesims2, it was a while ago but I even had hairstyles (pincurled, bouffant, marcelle). I'll try digging through my old links for you!
Well, some swimsuits: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=115971 and with polkadots: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=229103
A nice 50s dress: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=118803
Petticoat and bullet bra: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=204728, more underwear: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=239640
I think the grey suit here is wonderful: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=222003, more suits: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=277984
House dress: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=218716
Even nicer vintage-style swimsuits: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=303698
If you have the Nightlife expansion, these teen outfits are adorable: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=325415
These are more 30s, I think, but maybe some of your 1940s Sims are a little outdated? ;) http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=319281

Are these along the lines of what you were looking for? If so, I can help you find plenty more, I just want to make sure I am on the right track before I keep posting you links!

THIS is the essential vintage Sims 2 clothing site in my opinion! http://www.all-about-style.com/ (or it was, but looking through their site now it seems a bit different. I'll get back to you on this one) Well, they have got some good hats and hairstyles:

But I thought they used to have whole sections for 40s/50s/60s

Oh I thought I've downloaded all I needed from modthesims.net already lol found some items I didnt have, like the petticoat and the housedresses (gosh, I love them, I want them for myself), otherwise, theyre all pretty much on my computer already. Also, it would be nice if they had furniture, and things, to match their outfits. Have you ever found anything like that to download? I havent, just small objects. But this is definitely the style Im after.

Yeah, allaboutstyle is the best page I've found so far, I've downloaded pretty much all they have in the historical, but they didnt have as much 30s or 40s as I wanted, and half of them didnt work when I installed them :( But pretty cute hairdo's though, even if I never did get the rolls to work properly without a hat..

Did those downloads from allaboutstyle not work maybe because the mesh got left out of the download, or because they require one of the expansions to work? That's always the worst. Sorry, I wish I had more new items to show you, I could probably find more from different websites given the chance (but I must motor soon, so not tonight). I can't remember the name of the website and I don't even know if it's still up, but I had a whole set of wonderful antique furniture with matching 30s decor, couches, chairs, lamps, sidetables, wallpaper and everything (with options for upholstery!). There was also a great 1950s dinette set available somewhere at one time. I'll PM you the links if I can dig them up again!

Im not sure, I think it was the meshes thet wasn't included or didnt work properly. Very well, I need to reinstall my Sims game anyway, so I have to reinstall all the downloads, maybe I can find the meshes somewhere. Google is my friend, even though I haven found anything with her aid.

I have a quick question. I can't seem to figure out how to install an item that I download that isn't a zipped file. Zipped files are easy. The other ones... not so much. This is hindering my ability to download a bunch of vintage clothes I don't already have.

And furniture... I can't get that to work at all. Any tips?

If your files are a sims2pack file, you just click on them. Otherwise, I dont know... All my downloads are in .zip or .rar. Have you enabled custom content in your game?

Oh, and I found this link, it has tons of vintage and retro stuff to download, havent tried it yet, just found it.

.rar's! I have no idea how to get those to work. I can get the Sims 2 site stuff to work, and .zip ones to work, but .rar's... totally and completely lost.

I'll give the site a look through, too. :)
