Detail of a 1950s 'Red Quality' tie. This one is printed cotton rather than the more common rayon:

Here are some more close ups of Tootal scarf designs:

It is a 'tebelized' fabric, which feels warmer than the more standard Tootal scarves.

This is quite a distinctive pattern. It's much simpler than so many of their other designs:

The tie is a standard quality and i bougth it in a shop in Liverpool. The man who sold the tie to me said it was from the 1930s. Nice scarves by the way!

I would agree with the 1930s dating. If you look through the earlier pages of this thread you will see some tootal labels posted by Ben Stephens. They look slightly larger than the later period labels and have a stiffer fabric, with a slightly orange colour to the writing. I believe that is the 1930s (maybe early 1940s) label.

Here's a couple of Tootal cravats that I bought yesterday, no great age but both in great condition though photo's make them especially the yellow/golden one look a bit washed out;

and with a 'Celanese' one for comparison of folds etc, the later Tootal has far less 'work' in it than earlier Tootals but is still nice none the less;

I normally associate 'sports quality' ties with sporting scenes, but this is just a regular pattern:

Hi all,

I just wanted to post some pics of a 1920s Tootal scarf that I recently sold in my Etsy store. I was actually dated 'December 1927' on the label and seemed to be from the period when they were developing their crease-free fabrics. I would have offered it here if I had of noticed there was a thread dedicated to Tootal products.

I am in Australia so I'm guessing it was sold here originally or brought out with someone who moved to Oz in the 20s from the UK. It sold within a day of being listed. Was a beautiful item and really did feel a lot like silk.

I don't think I've ever seen that style of label before. It's really difficult to date Tootal scarves although, in my experience, the earlier labels were only stitched at the ends and the later ones were stitched allround. That would make this later and, as Esteban points out, the 1927 date is just the patent date (which as you rightly pointed out was when they were developing their crease resistant fabrics). I'm not even sure whether Tootal moved into the tie and scarf market until the 1930s.

I like the pattern on that one - it's like a deconstructed plaid pattern. I've not seen one before.
