Yes, it was described as Russet brown, vegetable-tanned, aniline finished front quarter horsehide. A Japanese hide I believe - its a stunner, just a bit too snug a fit on me.

major - its tagged as 42" but fits like a 38", dimensions are posted a bit further back in the thread. The Ventura is quite trim in the waist, a vintage type of fit I would say.

Your jacket is a light russet and the Ventura is a red russet. Two totally different hides. But the Monarch looks great!!!!

The hide color is actually dark seal with red undertones. Some panels show a little more red than others. The jacket is a little over two years old now. Here is a more realistic pic of the hide.
The Ventura that I sold recently had more red in it. The Ventura on this thread is a little more brown in color. John hasn't had that shade of russet for a few years now. It sure is a beautiful hide.

I think your "russet brown" is very close to the "red brown" shinki horsehide on my Rainbow Country jacket. Perhaps it's a bit different, but that is as close a shade to my red brown as I've seen from GW. Love that color, love your jacket!
