Viola- I definately plan on doing the "something old, something new..." I'm just not quite sure what I'm going to be doing for each. The wedding is a long way off still. But the dress is probably going to be the something new...

I guess the wedding itself could be something old, couldn't it? :D

I don't understand 'The Knot' website, how do I see pictures of Miss Dottie's wedding? It sounds wonderful!

Hi, by the way. I'm new. *waves* :)

I don't understand the Knot site either. I googled it and I came up with THIS LINK.

Snatch them up with the buy it now!
ebay link removed...please review live ebay auction policy.
They'd be adorable with your names printed in the little box on front, and details of the invite on the inside.
I'm really big on being thrifty so of course I'd want to scan them in and print them myself.

Best wishes with whatever you find and decide. Your dress idea and wedding ship are awesome, and romantic!

I think I may have to! I saw them just the other day and they're on my "Watch this item" list, but I can't help it! I just keep going back to them and drooling!! :D

First off- Hi Emblaze! Welcome!

Secondly- Would anyone mind if I kept this post up to date with all of my planning and pictures? Others who are planning a wedding could post as well, and it could be another source for vintage wedding planning? Or would this idea be better suited elsewhere?

I got married in the UK with a 50's tiki luau on 30 December. We gave all the guests a souvenir tiki mug and hubby invented 'Madame Pele's Passion' to serve in it (a sort of mai tai). We got engaged at Kilauea as a shooting star flashed by - hence the Hawaiian theme.
We had three of the best British rockin' dj's to jive the night away to. Although by that point, I had ditched the green velvet Louboutin stilettos!!
Here's some pictures! Happy to share more pics and other info, too eg processional, first dance tune, etc! Just ask!

Thank you!

You know the rhyme? "Marry in Green, ashamed to be seen".
Traditionally, green was always avoided for weddings, as it was thought to be unlucky. To say a girl 'had a green gown' implied that she was of loose morals, because her dress would be grass-stained due to rolling around in the fields!

After working in a bridal shop for four years, it is a delight to see a bride go out on a limb and try something different. Which isn't to say that I don't like white or ivory dresses, as I do, but sometimes it's neat to see a bride have a little fun with her outfit ;)

Who made your dress, by the way?

Oh and thanks for the compliments, ladies--it makes me feel that it was all worth it. Hoo boy! Lots of planning goes into those wedding shindigs!

And Cherrybombb, I'd love to hear more about your wedding planning and getting updates on it. The ladies here were so incredibly helpful with ideas for wedding stuff.

It's the sweetest community around!

Hahahaha! I just got my shoes. I'm so thrilled it's absurd. It only took 45 minutes to get my dress, but it took months and months to find the shoes. The ladies at Louboutin were horrible, horrible people. I came in and was like "I'm looking for a shoe to go with an ivory beaded wedding dress." and they were like "OK". And then we stared at eachother. And then I said "I want the highest ones you have." and they said "OK" and then we stared at eachother again. Finally I grabbed a pair off the wall and said "Bring me these in an 8." and she said OK, but the ones she brought had fingerprint smudges on them. (Then she got all snooty saying "are you sure you can walk in those?") Bah, they were too white and too low anyway, so I was very glad I didn't have to give the horrible lady a commission.

But the boys at the other shop were total sweethearts and they were soooooo excited about showing me shoes. My shoes are sooooo tall. And they're pearl colored and have a peep toe and an ankle strap. If I didn't have a fiance, I'd just marry the shoes.

Now, if only I could convince my mom, sister, fiance, and florist that I really mean it when I say I don't like peonies, I'd be in a much better planning position. (I honestly really just don't like round things of any variety. Balls, circles, doughnuts. I just don't like round things.) Seriously, I'm going to wind up with big balls of peonies everywhere. Knowing my family I'll probably wind up with a big peony pomander.
