What era

I just got a new hat from Art and it got me thinking. What era or time frame did they use a really high crown, like 5 and 1/2 to 5 and 3/4 with a ribbon of about 2 and 1/2 inches high. I really love the hat even though the high crown took a little getting used to, but it makes me wonder when that style was in vogue. What do our experts think?

Yes, pictures, please!:)

Though there are always exceptions, the general time frame for a hat such as yours is around the 1920s, and maybe extending into the '30s. 5 1/2" crowns never really went away, and the taller 5 3/4" crowns continued through the '40s, at least, and maybe later. But, combined with that 2 1/2" ribbon, it nails it squarely to the Jazz Age. 2" ribbons lasted a lot longer, style-wise.

Wow, with a 2 1/2" ribbon, I'd think you'd need a fairly straight-sided crown to get it to properly swirl to fit the crown. That height alone will cause trouble with deep pinches.

Thanks Brad, that was what I was getting at. I guess I could have contacted Art but he seems so busy right now I didn't want to bother him. I suspect you hit it right on the head. As a matter of fact, the hat in question is the "Jazzman" that Art has on his web site. And sorry that I don't have pictures but I haven't mastered how to post yet. Now if I could find a third grader they could fix me up, computer wise. lol
