Strange, as in leaves you scratching your head? A while ago, I was driving through my neighborbood. A group of 4-5 young men were standing on the corner. They were late teens to early twenties, and well dressed (sport coats, ties, etc.) Among them was a young lady of about the same age, also well dressed. She was...umm..."well endowed." Around her neck she wore a sign with the single word "Pneumatic" positioned over her ample...umm..endowments. Still has me wondering.

PORN shoot.

I was the strangest thing that no one saw...

One night when my wife and kids were out of town, I was awakened at about 3AM by the sensation that something was fluttering around my bedroom.

When I turned the light on, I discovered that a fruit bat had somehow gotten into the room. To this day, I still have no idea how it managed that feat.

It was summer, and quite warm, so I had the ceiling fan going full blast and that bat was flapping around and coming very close to the blades. I have nothing against bats, and I appreciate the fact that they eat a lot of insects, so I did not want to see the creature get injured. I turned off the fan and, being the reasonable, logical person that I am, opened the window all the way to give the bat a means of egress. This was not the best of strategies, as I discovered when a second bat, possibly attracted by the inaudible cries of the first, flew in through the open window.

Refusing to panic, I decided to try to herd the bats toward the window as best I could. Again, this turned out to be counterproductive. Before I could get either of the bats to go near the open window, a third bat had accepted the invitation and joined the fray.

This was when I called the police. I calmly explained my predicament to the obviously amused dispatcher, who informed me that they could send an animal control person over. In the morning. I politely thanked her anyway and hung up, now determined to solve this on my own.

I armed myself with the only available non-lethal weapons I had at my disposal - a wide curtain rod and a thick towel - and got down to business.

I can only imagine how it must have looked: me, stark naked, swinging a curtain rod at three bats flying around my bedroom at 3 in the morning. I don't know how, but I managed to stun each of them in turn with the curtain rod, then gather them up in the towel before they regained their senses, and toss them out the window. All the bats survived.

I can't begin to imagine the horror that would have ensued had my wife been home at the time.

That had to be the funniest story I've heard in a long time. The visual was priceless. Thanks, you started my day off with a laugh.

My mom always said that when she was young (1940s and 1950s) the ladies in Montreal were deathly afraid of getting bats entangled in their hair.

That bat story is great! It reminds me of when a gigantic owl once flew down our chimney into our living room and began knocking everything over. Luckily, the animal control came in a timely manner, I don't think we could have handled that by ourselves!

About a year ago (this was pretty strange at the time, let me tell you) there was a weird noise in the room we call "the cave," which is a storage room with washer and dryer that runs the length of our apartment and is built into the hillside on which our apartment sits. The noise kept going on. My cats were unnerved at it. Dying animal? Didn't sound distressed. Ghost? Maybe. I tried to look for something in the cave but there was nothing visible. It seemed to be coming from inside the ground. Finally there was a knocking from the INSIDE of a cabinet in the kitchen (which shares a wall with the cave) I opened it and a weird animal fell out. At first I thought it was a rat, a big weird slow rat. Then I noticed that its hands were queerly positioned. I thought, "rat with busted legs." No -- its face was weird too. Tiny eyes, big weird nose, big teeth sticking out. The tail was not ratlike either. It flopped into the bathroom. The cats followed but they were standoffish. I went into the bathroom and in the magazine rack it was flopping around. The cats didn't touch it. I realized what it was -- a MOLE. It had crawled under the house, come up through a hole in the cave's cement flooring. I took it outside into a shady place, locked the cats inside so they wouldn't mess with it, and hoped it would find a hole to crawl in. Perhaps the weird sound was an echolocation thing? I have no idea. But it was ...

ONE OF THE STRANGEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN.

(I vote that all entries must conclude thusly.)

I can...if it was anything like the horror that ensued when a bat flew down our chimney when I was a child. It took up residence in the linen closet and exploded out past her hair when Mom opened it to get some towels. I think I've never heard my mother scream so loud in all the years before or since. :)

My dad ended up stunning and trapping it with a tennis racket, I think...and we soon got anti-bat screens installed across the top of the chimney.

About ten years ago I was living in Germany ( Saarland to be precise) and there was a terrific storm which woke me up. It must have been about 3am and I sat under the porch watching the rain crash around me and the lightning setting fire to the sky. In the distance I could hear a plane getting closer. The house was high up so planes used to fly quite close - the plane in question was a twin prop. As it got closer I thought that it would surely get hit by lightening and sure enough it did. There was an incredibly loud bang and I could see the bolt envelope the plane in light. Quite unbelievable.

I've never seen anything like it since.

My real one this time (don't read this if you are eating):

I used to have a pet tarantula. I'd feed it live crickets. I would buy them by the dozen for a buck at an aquarium supply shop. One time I bought a dozen and fed Octavia a couple and put the rest in a plastic round tupperware container. I put holes in the top with an awl so they would have air; I put a bottle cap in it with water so they would have water. I put a piece of bread for them to eat. I went on vacation for about a week. When I got back, I checked up on the crickets. There weren't crickets in the tupperware container, but a solid mass of writhing green fuzzy mold with cricket legs trying to vainly escape. It was the grossest thing I had ever seen. I threw it out the window. This was on Russian Hill in San Francisco around 1993. What happened was, the bread had caught some mold. Perhaps it got wet from the water. The mold grew OVER, INTO, AND AROUND the carapaces of the crickets. Their chitinous exoskeletons became not only festooned with mold but enlaced and imprisoned.

Absolutely disgusting and ... the strangest thing I have ever seen.

That's honest to god the most disgusting thing I have ever read in my entire life!

It wasn't a plane at all. It was actually an egg shaped craft with five small beings on board. Two survived the crash when I got there and were quite distraught. Where was this you asK? Roswell, NM---1947. ;) :p

I was born July 1,1947....and found wrapped in a shiny silver foil blanket..that was noticed reflecting NM sun after I fell off a turnip truck shaped object in (you guessed it) Roswell.

One time I was at an intersection and the cars from the opposing lane were making a turn. There was this lady driving a small car that was absolutely FILLED with trash. Literally, the entire back glass of the car was a sea of trash! Various fast food wrappers, papers, and what-not.
The lady was holding her arm up against the pile of trash in the passenger's seat I guess to keep it from falling on her as she turned.

Maybe she was a compulsive hoarder? Still, left an impression on me!

lol there are a few of those cars in my city. How do they do it??

The strangest thing I ever saw was flying saucers in my own back yard. I swear I'm not nuts. Last summer, we were on our back deck late one night. My husband and I were both looking up at the stars, and suddenly there it was: a luminscent green 'disk' or 'saucer'. It moved effortlessly across the sky. It took maybe 10 seconds to pass out of our site. We sat and watched for a couple of hours and saw 2 more of the exact same kind.

Even my husband, Mr. Skeptic, doesn't know what to think.

I know someone like that here. Lincsong can back me up on this. Linda, name changed to protect the compulsive, has went through three cars like this. One is still in her driveway and the other is the one she uses. I guess you can't sell a car so overloaded with papers and junk that the back wheels go flat.
You should see her porch if you think the car is bad. I don't think a foot has been laid on it since 1952. :eusa_doh:

J
