Tonight we are driving a couple miles to the HoosierPark horse racing track and casino. Just found out they have great shrimp and grits(like S.C.). In Indiana..wow! I'm excited! Update to come.

Fläskpannkaka. I don't really think it has a name in English... You basically take pancake batter and pour it over pancetta/bacon cubes and bake it in the oven (about 1 1/2 inch thick). It's eaten with lingonberry jam. Extremely old-fashioned, traditional food here.

Last night we went out to a middle eastern/ greek restaurant here. I have leftovers for lunch.

More leftovers here too! We had roast lamb and veg last night. So i put the leftovers in a pie. We'll be having it with mashed potatoes, gravy and cabbage.

January is always pie month in our house. Nothing like a bit of hearty stodge to warm the old cockles on a cold, drizzly evening.

Shame you are so far away Mr Daddy or i'd be inviting you round for a slice!

Locktown dog - I'm very jealous about the venison. I'll bet it's going to be most excellent. I haven't eaten any decent venison for a long while.

You eat the ends of the petals and the heart---either dipped in mayonaisse or some kind of sauce. You can also roast them in a sauce or seasoned.
They taste different depending on how you eat them. They generally have a sort of nutty creamy taste.

Exactly, but don't eat the fuzzy part covering the heart.

To cook them: First you trim the pointy parts off the leaves and cut the stem off to the bottom and then you boil them covered in water until a leaf comes out easily... about 45 minutes

I love them dipped in melted butter with a splash of lemon. Yum!

Last night was takeout sandwiches because we had a late evening running errands. Tonight was total comfort food - a cheesy ground beef and rice casserole, green salad with ranch dressing.
