What's the worst coffee worldwide?

Um, I'm a little confused, actually.

Yesterday, I gave my authentic 1 cup Alu Bialetti Moka (Made in Italy) a try, after a long time.
And what should I say? It went surprisingly well, this time. Yesterday with caffeine-free coffee powder, today with fresh-grind regular coffee.
I heated up with 5/9 on my electric, instead of the usual 6/9.

And the ugly metal taste is nearly gone, this time.
Let's see, if it will be over the next weeks.

Worst coffee I had was at a fairly nice hotel in Austin. I don't think they ever clean the machine. There were a lot of chemical tastes, it was extremely watered down and supremely disgusting. I had to go across the street to a Starbucks for coffee. I don't do fancy coffee. I like it black and strong. They didn't quite understand when I asked for black coffee. Kept asking about mocha frappe shamalangadingdong stuff that I have no idea what they were asking. I got mad and asked, "You have cups? You have coffee? Put coffee in cup and leave out the BS." Was still terrible but better than the hotel's.

Premiere, next minutes!!

I'm finally trying the Lavazza decaffeinato beans from the blue bag (CO² method)!
Let's see, if this beans taste acceptable. I mean, they are still on the affordable side, althought they just got 500 g bags.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but the traditional Malaysian coffee bean is roasted in butter which gives it a particularly pungent flavor. The resulting brew is so bitter that the way it’s usually consumed is with a dollop of sweetened, condensed milk. The server puts the condensed milk at the bottom of the cup and pours the coffee over the top and the customer can stir the milk in to their taste.

With the milk, it’s a real treat.

Without the milk, it’s a nightmare (for me, anyway).

The Malaysians also enjoy mixing that coffee (with or without the milk) with black tea. I never did enjoy that one.

You know, what?
I really DON'T miss my cone grinder! Still having the cheap storebrand blade grinder, still always using it for 20 seconds and I can't complain.

But I'm still beeing "tea first-drinker", only having one coffee in the morning, always milked. No coffee in the afternoon, disturbing my sleep at night!

I will get another blade grinder, which will be more longlasting than the cheap drugstore brand ones. Let's see!

Can anyone locate this cozy looking small diner?? Real Memphis/Tennessee? I didn't find anything about.

I couldn’t say. The video is a “budget” production, but that’s okay. I’ve seen much more extravagant ones that were a huge waste of money, in my estimation. At least the tune itself ain’t bad.

The diner itself is the Real McCoy and not a set. I’m all but certain of that. As to its location, though? Perhaps our Tennessean friends could shine a little light on that. The Manitoba license plate on the wall doesn’t tell me it isn’t in Memphis, but it certainly doesn’t tell me it is. (I have old plates from various Western states used as pieces of assemblages here. Now I have myself thinking I oughta hunt down some real old ones from New Mexico and Wyoming, the former with the Zia sun symbol and the latter with the cowboy on the bucking bronco. Them’s the cool ones, and likely pressed in a prison workshop way back when, which makes them all the cooler.)

If I were in the vicinity of the diner I’d stop in just to drink in the ambiance, and the drip coffee. I’ve borrowed stylistic elements of this type of diner in the remo-lite of my own home kitchen.

BTW, the band, which dubs itself “My Darling Clementine,” is comprised of the couple in the video, who have been married for more than 20 years. They’re British and are big on the American country music sound, especially the man/woman duets popular in the 1960s and ‘70s. Think Tammy Wynette and George Jones, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. I didn’t know any of this until a few minutes ago. I’ll keep an ear open for them, though. It seems they play small venues, which, at my age are the only type I care to visit.

That’s it, all right. Their own online presence only confirms it. (Their Facebook page could be the very definition of “food porn.”)

There’s a genuine came-there-in-pieces-from-the-factory diner less than half a mile from here. I do believe it was manufactured to order and not a true vintage example. But they did a proper job of designing and finishing and outfitting it. Period-correct materials throughout. Problem is that they took an authentic as a recently built diner can be and kitsched it out. Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe cardboard standees, spots at the counter wearing little plaques saying things like “Reserved for Sammy Davis Jr.” and “Reserved for Old Blue Eyes,” that sort of thing. And the food ain’t bad but it ain’t better than IHOP or Denny’s.

FWIW, I bet there are at least a couple dozen faux British pubs in the U.S. for every “American” diner in the U.K. At least.
