Only the era that produced this art could produce a jacket like the 8 ball.
I too purchased one of those cotton-poly MO jackets from Dillards, back in the early 80's. The little sales girl who helped me pick out a black one, was just getting ready to go on lunch break, so, you know......We've now been married for over 31 years. Still have the jacket(!) but only wear it while chopping wood or helping folks paint barns etc.
I think many of us have experienced a generous "learning curve" and now try to nudge others less experienced from making our mistakes and how not to get stuck with a pig in a poke jacket that doesn't look good, feel good, or fit well.
My G&B Indy jacket also sits in the back of my closet, but thus far I haven't seen fit to move it on to someone else.

Worf I too have bought a cigarette bomb. Was actually a decent vietnam era G1. I used this volcanic ash stuff to remove the odor. Worked rather well but did not fix the fit issues so I traded it for a half decent 50s job. Fit was good but the leather was way too "distressed" and reminded me too much of the banana republic a2 I once owned. Yes my list of regrets is growing as i think about it...sigh.

Willis & Geiger A-2. Bay purchase. Nice enough looking jacket, lovely colour and liked the 'retro' collar, but leather was very thin and flimsy, had a few undisclosed holes happening... couldn't move the arms forward... The issue was the postage from the US to South Africa, nasty import duties and then Ebay fees and postage back to a buyer in the US!!!! Could have bought a new Eastman. Tough lessons learned.

I was a teenager when that jacket hit the scene and I begged my mom to buy me one, with a big 8 ball on the back of course! Fortunately one of us had some common sense and I never got to rock that look...
Many that were the wrong style, size, colour or fit. I had a dark purple 1970's era leather blazer in the early 1980's before retro. No one wore anything like it here. When I got it in a thrift shop the light was low and it looked black. I wore it for a few months and my main excuse is that I was 19. I had a solid Brando style bike jacket. Not cool. I look like Anthony Perkins not Maroln Brando so the effect was close to ghastly. I'm a big believer that some styles simply don't work on some people, even if they fit perfectly.

I have to find the pic. It's probably at my mom's house, but when I was in high school I really wanted a long duster. A real cowboy kicker. And I saved for it and bought it. From Bermans (wilsons). $185.00 and it took me a damn eternity to earn it. It was a street sweeper in length (like 70") and I could fit my whole body in one sleeve. Save the fact I bought a 2XL at 5'10 175lbs. I'll find the pic and put a nail in the coffin of this thread. I was hesitant to mention it at first but I'm willing to sacrifice all my street cred just for the humor it will bring you. Just remember... it was the late 80's/ early 90's...

I wouldn't say it's the garments fault, but I bought the Iron Heart deer skin western shirt. Amazing piece but it set me back $1600 :\

Not really a regret, but a good chuckle...
I've been checking the local thrift stores for a plain, dressy black leather jacket.(I don't really know all the style names and models, other than the basic biker, bomber and blazer.) I have short skinny arms, so it's tough to find jackets that fit well. Today I found one, great fit in the chest, the sleeves were only about 1/2" longer than my preference, and only 20 dollars! The brand, Kookie (quality leather since 1985), sounded odd and girly for a man's jacket but what the hey...I'm a bit kooky myself so I bought it.
Got it home, and looked up the brand. They make a small line of leather jackets and leather pants in styles for both men and women. But, apparently the mainstay of their business is S&M gear.
I still like the jacket, but now I wonder if I need a safe word when I wear it....

bought a DD jacket and it wasn't made as well as I wanted it to be... sold it and got a RMC and now a Himel so I'm good now.

My friend is wearing one now. Well, the British version, inverness coat I believe it's called? Anyway, he wears just the coat and doesn't really put any effort into the rest of the costume so I'm not really sure what he thinks he looks like but it's cringe worthy. Cowboy duster, you can pull it off with a pair of jeans, boots, shirt, cool belt and it works... But that thing? No way.
