What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Well, if it can be fixed here it would be better. The shipping cost, the risk of it getting held in customs and the time (it was about 3 weeks one way last time). Haven't talked to DD about it.
But I'll have to be wearing some of my other jackets now, I guess.

Send an email to Aero, they made repairs on my Buco J24, maybe they'll agree to repair yours...

I know it's off topic, but it's urgent, so I'm asking here. Anyone know any good place to repair the broken front zipper on my J-21?
Best would be in Germany but Europe is fine, too.

Is that that dead-stock zipper?

Yupp, but I don't need a NOS Talon to replace it when it breaks after another year. Rather I would love to have something in brass with brown tape that is the sturdiest thing ever!
I would love to have some suggestions maybe via pm, so it's not disturbing this thread anymore. I'm sorry for this.
By the way Mysteryo, I called Munich and they said if I find a zipper they have a woman who can replace it.
So it's the hunt for a zipper now. Haha.

I'm sure SB could replace it with a No 8 Riri ( which are amazing zips) .. or a No 10 Universal ( again great zips)

I've had pretty poor experience with Eastman repair work of late i.e. they don't reply or when they do the price is extortionate ( £200 for a zipper replacement) !!!!

Haven't used Aero recently but they could also do it .... easy to ask and they always respond fairly promptly.

Equally there has to be someone locally ij Germany who could do similar ... surely !

I would go with any No. 10 YKK or Riri. They're both really good zippers, huge, tough as nails and they look nice. Gonna will last you a lifetime which is the most important part.

But see this is exactly what I was thinking about, how some repro makers are boasting about this dead-stock stuff they're putting into jackets when it's a well known fact cotton has a lifespan. This one got busted because of the old and degraded zipper tape.

I'll guess that most repo jacket wearers wouldn't wear their jackets as hard as A-1 has though...

Why not? It's exactly the reason to buy a repro instead of an original, you can beat the hell out of the jacket without having to worry about ruining a +70 year old jacket.

A-1 has the one jacket he wears all day every day....everywhere (which is awesome btw)

The rest of us seem to have way too many jackets that only see occasional wear as we rotate through them to try and justify owning them..or maybe thats just me lol

This is true A-1 wears the crap out of it and stuffs a lot of layers under it, sometimes looking like it's about to bust at the seams!! And it did !! On the other hand it looks great with beautiful patina. A-1 you wear it hard and this should just be viewed as maintenance.......Go for the brass!!

He's not riding in it tho and it's a riding jacket!! Maybe I'm nuts but I think DD should pay to have it shipped both ways and replace that zip for free. With a #10 zip suitable for the purpose of the jacket. The chronicle of chances given to DD on this particular jacket is a long one. He should do right by his biggest fan. End of story.

I second Plumbline's reccomendation for a #8 riri. These look great on motorcycle jackets and you can order one with brown zipper tape if you like. Google riri zippers and you should be able to find exactly what you are looking for.
I would ask around and see if anyone in your area knows a tailor who works on leather. I am very fortunate to live less than a mile away from a wonderful tailor who knows the difference between a G-1 and an A-2, hopefully the same will be true where you live.
Your jacket is one of my all-time favorites on this thread and I wish you the best of luck in getting a speedy and long lasting repair!

Signed and seconded.

Running around with a donkey through autumn leaves is one thing but just from the photo I can tell that if A1 did ride and God forbid, took a minor spill wearing the jacket, that zipper would've ripped from top to bottom. That's majorly uncool. Hell, the zipper wouldn't even make it if you crashed your bicycle, A1.

This jacket must've brought enough business to DD so shipping it back for a repair shouldn't be a problem for the man.

if you already consider that, then see this as a sign from heaven to install a DUAL END ZIPPER

replace the standard square main slider with something else, wire style or something
http://www.ykkfastening.com/products/zipper/slider/pull_type/

or a RiRi of similar type

That thing is neat, the dual end zipper. I have it on a cop jacket. It's actually useful!

Oh, and in case my comment came out wrong, I meant what I said about running with a donkey in the most positive light possible. I'd much rather be living A1's life than mine. :D
