When I was a kid every once in a while we would get tarantuas in the house. I vividly remember going in the bathroom and finding one in the folds of the shower curtain. Nobody tell Moon.
They don't bother me either. You can always shoot a dog, or a bear or a coyote. Dad ran off some guys who tried to steel his garden tractor one night.... there may have been gunfire. It didn't seem to bother me much at the time. I just went back to sleep. Hey, I was bout 10.
But those yellow jackets were just plain mean.
My uncle was a big, tough, fireman... who was neurotically afraid of snakes. All snakes. I was following him through our garden once, and as he bent down to pick some green beans... all of a sudden he fell backward onto the ground, wailing and grasping at his chest. I just stared at him, wondering WTH? He got up almost immediately, looking rather sheepish, and said Oh, sorry, Doug, a damn frog jumped up and hit me in the chest. I though it was a rattlesnake and my life flashed before my eyes!
Only later, after Uncle David had gone home, did I tell my Dad about it and we laughed and laughed...

Don't guess Moonie is going to visit there any time soon. May have to rename it "F#%* That Mountain".
There really aren't any Rattle Snakes in the Morel spot -- just lots of Copperheads. They look like leaves too...

Posting this here because they both read & have contributed to this thread...Bamaboots & Dale dh66, be safe & keep a watchful eye for those expected tornados in Alabama today after the death & devistation they did in Louisiana.
Thanks, HJ. It's that time of year and eyes towards the west. We were on the tail end of the devastation in 2011 which caused so much damage and took so many lives here and out your way. We had to get a new roof, the apple and plum tree became wood for the smoker and we were w/o power for a week but literally, just minutes down the road many lost everything.

You are a brave man, I couldn't even have had a tarantula in the same building as me. I have the same feelings about spiders, big or small. Snakes, not so much.

When I was in elementary school there was a rather large commotion in the yard one day during recess, something about a huge spider two girls had found. The Principal, being the only male staff member on duty at that moment, investigated it himself. When he saw what all the fuss was about he smiled and said, "Oh, it's just a tarantula," and proceeded to pick it up, pet it gently, and let it crawl up his arm. He explained that he'd had one as a pet when he was young, and that tarantulas are usually quite docile unless they feel threatened. As it turned out, this specific tarantula was the pet of a family that lived in one of the houses that bordered the schoolyard; it had gone missing a couple of days prior, and the family was very happy when it was returned to them unharmed.
A good time for prime rib or a nice crown rib pork roast.
I agree with Rodolfo on duck, though. Yum. Tina's restaurant in Dundee used to serve up an amazing green peppercorn duck breast.

Boy, ain't that the truth. They have some critters down there that'll make you hurt yourself just trying to get away from 'em.
That's just a coconut crab. Throw it in a big pot of boiling water and get the butter melted!
It's called uga (oo-gna) on Niue Island... a true delicacy. If you want you can eat the "butter" too!
Just keep your fingers and other delicates away from those powerful pinchers!
