Thanks Mike
Looking for more ads from around the time it came out ... 42-43 era.
There seems to be only one

Sent from my space aged handheld communication device and universal translator
Lots of "keep it under your Stetson" ads. Typical for the period. I could only find one ad that talked about a specific model and that was a Whippet. The one you found may be the one they produced. Checked the online digitized magazines from WWII, but they did not have any hat ads.

Liner shot from an old Etsy listing. This was listed as a 50's hat, but had a stingy brim like the one in the ad Red posted.

That is a much later version of the Eagle
That version didn't resemble the original at all ... kind of like the Playboy II had nothing in common with the original Playboy.
This Eagle pictured Looks to be 60s... I'm interested in the original 40s version
That ad you posted is fantastic

OK kids. So what's the difference between the Stetson Open Road, Stratoliner and 25? They look like variations of the same theme.

if we are talking vintage ... Stratoliner and OR have slightly different dimensions ... Stratoliner is much more of a fedora for lack of a better description ... and the felt often feels quite different
OR will always have a wind trolley
and 25 is just a price designation of an OR ... it was a step up in quality from the basic OR and the quality went up to 100

Fair enough. Stratoliner was looking like a OR with a shorter crown in most pictures I saw. Apart from the pin I couldn't tell the difference.

if you held them in your hands you would see the difference
they really are quite different ...
different blocks
different brims ... width and flange
etc .
they just both happen to have thin ribbons and a bound edge

And the flanging on a Strat is different to give the sides that flare a bit. This is why the Strat boxes are shaped the way they are.

Also, 25 was a price designation for other hats that weren't ORs, as well.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

"keep steam away from the hat interior at all times
steam will destroy a sweatband"

Hi folks, first post. I steamed the inside of my campdraft deluxe a while ago. It worked fine. I had already removed the liner, and did try to quickly bypass the sweatband to only direct the steam to where I wanted it applied. But, my question is, without applying steam on the inside, how is one to set the front dent without scalding your fingers?

Hold the hat from the back and apply the steam to the outside front area. Some guys just run their hats under the shower. I use distilled or filtered water and boil the water on the stove top.... place a lid over 2/3 of the pot and then hang the hat over the steam. Works like a charm.
