That's a beauty, Terry. The ribbon collr really pops.

.
It sure is, Randy. Those colors do pop. I think Brent did a real good job on these color choices. The gray ribbon is a vintage French silk grosgrain and the brim binding is also a vintage French silk ribbon in "Dusty Blue Periwinkle". I added some of that periwinkle as an accent color to the bow keeper and also made a sweatband bow out of it too. Brent did good on this one.

I had a little down time waiting for materials so I was able to finally finish my custom Western that I started about 6 weeks ago or so. The color is Carbon Steel. From start to finish in pictures:

The open crown on this is 6 inches. I trimmed the brim to 3 1/2 inches in proportion to the crown height. Sweat band is sewn in.

I went with a Cattleman crease and a curled Western brim. I chose a black 3/8 ribbon with an OR style bow.

Choosing between a couple of Stetson liners that I salvaged to go into this hat until I can come up with some of my own.
Carbon-Steel-Western-Project-13.jpg

New Sweat and sweat band bow that I made from the black 3/8 ribbon I used on the hat. Liner is in.

All put together.

...and now I'm back to work finishing up on a previous custom that I started.

If anyone is looking for a good candidate for a conversion I have a Dobbs Rancher Twenty in size 7 that has mothing on the crown, but the brim is OK. If it was close to my size I would send it to Terry to be flipped inside-out and (maybe) converted to a fedora. I'm OK with it staying a western too.

That's a nice one Bob. It's one of my favorite Western styles too. I see the mothing but from the pictures it doesn't look like any of it went through. It still looks like a solid hat on my end.

FEPSA is close to opening their own e commerce site where we can buy direct from them I am hoping the price comes down to a more reasonable level.
The site should have opened this week but it stills says coming soon.
That would be nice. Yeah, hopefully those prices will go down when they start their e commerce site. Everything from groceries to gas is just too high these days.

My hat arrived early! Than never happens. Terry has flanges, but not in my huge size. He sent me the hat with the brim un-flanged and I’ll accomplish that duty myself. The felt is FEPSA 100% rabbit and the color is “pale blue.” I think it’s the same color Tim at pure beaver also calls “pale whale.” The open crown is 6” or maybe a 1/16” over. The bound edge brim is 3 ⅛ “ wide. The block is from Hatters Supply House of Colorado. It’s a size 7 ⅞ #52 long oval with an 6 1/4” (ish) height. Everything about this hat shows great attention to detail. I’ll post more photos after it’s flanged and shaped.

To my eye, contrasting colors on the bow keeper can look garish if overdone. Terry kept it subtle and classy.

The felt is wonderful with a great hand. The felt will need some steam to hold a shape and it currently has quite a bit of spring back. It may be rabbit, but it’s some pretty incredible Felt. The brim is significantly firmer, but not in a bad way. It’s just right to hold its shape once flanged and provide structure to the hat. The brim is not in any way harsh or approaching to firmness of say a modern Stetson Royal DeLuxe.

Thank you, Terry! I can’t wait for my other hats.
